I rented a 991 C4S cabriolet in Stuttgart a few years ago. I hit 265 kph (about 165 mph) on an unlimited speed stretch of the Autobahn. My biggest mistake on that run was leaving the top down! The car felt stable and like it had plenty of power to keep accelerating, but traffic conditions wouldn't allow it. I don't think I've had my 991 TTS cabriolet above 100 mph.

The car is stable at speed. I cant imagine owning a car like this and not doing it...do it to at least say youve done.
Check your tires go to a runway event and let it rip.

Assuming your Porsche is in proper condition, I completely trust the car to run it's rated speed. From what I have seen printed, it's 193/194 mph. I would expect it to do that 'safely', meaning it won't fall apart and kill you.

Is it a thing for an apparently undamaged tire with a decent amount of tread to just spontaneously explode at high speed? I mean, obviously you wouldn't expect it to happen, but what are the chances? 1/1000? 1/1,000,000?

I 100% concur, a well maintained car should not have an issue, however should one overlook a problem, the probability of a catastrophic event at nearly 200 MPH increases exponentially.
Having lived in Germany for a couple of years, I saw more than a handful of times the pieces of an unidentifiable car scattered along he autobahn for a great distance...I never knew the factors, except high speeds were involved, ugly.
My thoughts are, you can reduce risk by spending an hour or so doing a thorough inspection. Then, finding the right location to do it safely along with the right safety gear. Call it overly cautious, or call it being prepared, regardless being safe is something we owe our families and freinds...my two cents. JB

As others have said...Make sure all is inspected and in good order...But I can say that I run mine in the 25-30+ count at the Airstrip driving events and it runs flawlessly. These are great cars. I drive to the event in the car...Race all out hitting 170 MPH + by the time I let off the gas, hard on brakes all those times, so as not to become part of the aircraft/airport museum , and drive home and drive to work all week.
Only issue I have seen, is the brakes are disgusting after a day of 30 runs and hard stops (easily washed off), and the bugs that hit your car at that speed grow to 20 times their original size..haha. Looks like you hit crows...
They do feel unbelievably stable at speed...to the point where you have to remember how fast you are going as you feel too safe.
Enjoy! Just my $0.02

Racetracks are usually not the best place for top speed!
Just make sure they have the appropriate speed index and are not damaged.
But they rarely ever happen - the Autobahn is one of the most secure roads you can travel on!
The fastest I've seen on my speedometer was 195 mph, although in reality that was probably more like 185 mph (not in a Porsche though, I have an Alpina B12 Coupé).
You have to watch traffic very closely (you don't want someone to pull out on your lane with 85 mph), it should be (at least) a 3-lane-Autobahn and be prepared that the road will get more narrow.
