Mezger > DFI

PDK > 6MT

IMHO.

If you already have a PDK 7.2 then I would go for the 09TT; no question about it.

I really wanted a 6 speed manual over a pdk. I settled for a 997.2 Turbo. If I wanted a pdk it would have been a 997.2 turbo S.

Every change in a icon such as the 911 will always have people holding on to the familiar past; drum to disc, carb to FI, torsion bar to coil spring, air cooled to water cooled, 2wd to awd, mezger to DFI, manual to PDK...the list will continue... But the DFI is a far superior engine in every performance criteria, except for the current availability of after market engine performance mods, which other than forum junkies like us, a very small percentage of turbo owners want anyway. Long live Porsche technical development.

Default PDK

I have been going thru this same dilemma for a while but I'll tell you my story...bought a 2012 Turbo S cabriolet with PDK for my wife and she really enjoyed it but it was not her dream car as she did not like the fabric roof but I drove it enough to get a feel for it. Sold that car and got something else for her and bought a 2011 GT3 for myself because I wanted a 6 speed but honestly I surprised myself and did not enjoy the 6 speed as much as I thought as the manual shifting felt so slow when trying to launch off the line compare to the PDK (which I know it is) and also the worry in the back of my mind about missing a shift and hurting resale down the road with over revs. The other thing I did not like when trying to sell a 6MT is that when you a provide a DME and there are no over revs then you command a premium but on the other hand if you miss some shifts and have over revs you feel like your car is a lemon making it harder to sell which was always in the back of my mind. Not the primary reason I did not like the 6MT but a factor none the less. So I just bought a 2010 Turbo with PDK and could not be happier...its borderline blasphemous to admit I sold a GT3 to go to a 2010 Turbo with PDK but I love it and works for my current situation and end the end that's all that matters. I'm only going to do maybe 2 or 3 track days a year and the rest is just running around town and thru the country side so I'm happy with the PDK in sport mode as its great. About a year ago I had a Subaru STI 2012 model that was a blast to drive and the 6MT with factory short shifter felt better to me then that GT3 transmission but I'm no professional by any stretch so that's my non-professional opinion or maybe the transmission needed servicing...nothing was wrong with it but just not as smooth as I thought it would be when shifting aggressively.

I do agree that the 997.1 Metzger with 6MT in the future will be better for potential resale value but to me it was just not as fun as the PDK and the quicker shifts etc. so I went with what makes me happy now plus the particular Turbo I bought is nice so it made it easy to go with the PDK. Thanks!

To clarify my comments above...if I would have enjoyed the 6MT in the GT3 I would have kept it and not worried about potential over revs affecting resale but again for my current situation I prefer the PDK and overall I like the 997.2 platform because that's what I enjoy to drive the most and that was important to me more than driving my second choice car with potentially higher resale down the road if that makes sense...thanks!

My 2nd reply...

If you have a 997.2 pdk which you wanna keep. And im speculating/assuming some but rather than your potential garage...

997.2 carrera pdk and 997.2tt pdk. Or
997.2 carrera pdk and 997.1tt 6mt

I would rather have...
997.2tt pdk and 997.1 or 997.2 gt3 with 6mt

I admit this is a 2 car move instead of 1 but i really think the pdk is more suited to the turbo and the 6mt to the gt3. This way you have the best of both worlds. Pdk tt for around town and for brutal acceleration and a nice high revving N/a mezger with 6mt for fun/weekend twisties.

I really enjoy my 997.2 PDK as a DD. I got it new and put only 12k miles on it in 4.5 years. Its a keeper for me. I just can't imagine let her go.

I fully understand your point but I am not much into the GT3s. I would rather go with a GT3RS but that's way over my budget and I don't think this is the properly moment to buy any GT3 or GT3RS. It is the right time to sell them IMO.

Thanks everybody. I appreciate all comments

Default I met halfway...

...and got a 2010 Turbo with the short shift 6 speed and couldn't be happier...Well, if upgraded the exhaust I might be happier, but that's about it.

I'm not in the "Mezger-only" camp as I prefer the power and AWD system of the newer car.

I'm just not ready for PDK yet, that is, unless you've got a great deal on a new GT3.

It's hard to find a 997.2 TT with a stick. I would consider it for sure. IMO, these will have great value over the PDKs in the future.

Trust me, the dealer's "991 GT3 Party" is ending soon.
