Looks really really nice Nick...
...maintaining suede (or alcantra) is too much work for me. I had it in my GT2 and now I have it in the RS...I tend to NOT wash my hands when working in the garage and I end up staining my clothes, my steering wheel. Try this link:

Nick
Did you have any additional padding added to make the rim thicker?
I had my wheel done by Jack at Royal steering wheels and I am finding it a little on the thin / hard side.
I'm not sure if the Alcantara is put on over the original leather, or if the leather is first removed.
I'm considering getting it re done with some additional padding.

Additional leather is used for steering wheel before the alcantara is used.

A friend of mine used royal steering wheels and we compared and although my wheel cost more to do the evidence was there to justify the cost. His wheel was spongy to hold and only slightly thicker where as mine is much firmer and thicker and the quality of workmanship is far superior. But you get what you pay for.

After experiencing my wheel he will retrim his too he said.
