Took the car to my office today --was not even getting on it at all and when i got to a light i noticed a burning smell --when i looked in my rear view i saw some light smoke coming out of the rear. When i got to the office i left the car running, opened trunk and saw quite a bit of smoke coming out of the left side. When i got up underneath the car, i noticed oil dripping pretty bad, and a lot of residual oil all over the rear of the car.

All gauges were reading 100% fine. No warning lights, no odd pressure or temps. Just dropped it at my mechanic --in the meantime, im trying to find a good picture of the under carriage of a 997 turbo, was hoping for a schematic or labeled pic of some kind so i could point out where it seems the leak was coming from ----- NOT a happy camper today. Car has 27,000 miles on it ---

Hopefully it's just an oil line puncture. It makes a big mess, but it's not a big deal to fix. Does your car have the updated hoses for the turbos? There was a TSB on that.

Where in NY are you and who's your mechanic?

If you don't have the full service history on your car call your closest dealer or PCNA and give them your VIN. They'll pull the info on the car and tell you if the recall has been performed already or if you need to bring it in. The dealer will replace the oil lines free of charge.

Folks, we aren't immune from turbocharger failures with this platform. And yes we do have watercooled bearing housings and a circulation pump. This does not prevent the heat soak at shut down. The VNT KO4's get hot, and more than previous K16's or K24's. I am seeing overtemp damage to the internal VNT ring and turbine seal failure to cracked bearing housings (all heat related).

The best thing that one can do is to pause for 30 to 40 seconds before shutting the engine off.

When I have a moment, I will post some pictures showing heat related failures.

For inspections, pull the pressure hose that is attached to the turbocharger to intercooler. If oil pours out of the hose, you have a issue.
