Default Anyone Tried Liqui Moly Oil?

OMG not another oil thread but I'm coming up on routine oil change time. One of my local indies recommend Liqui Moly oil but I was skeptical because my Motul 8100 x-cess seems to work very well. Today at another indie, I ran into the Liqui Moly East Coast Regional Sales Manager so I leached on to him to explain why I should switch to his product. Bottom line, he gave me a lot of technical reasons why his product is better than other synthetics including Motul. Has anyone tried Liqui Moly and if so do you like it?

I haven't tried it but it's VERY popular in Europe. Liqui Moly is just getting a foothold in the US. I wouldn't hesitate to use that oil. I suppose the 5W-40 would be the optimal weight for our cars.

Here's a UOA report. I was surprised the zinc and phosphorous levels were so low on this one-

How is that "so low"? They're above the universal averages on both elements.

Liqui Moly says its 5-40 oil (I just bought some for my BMW) meets Porsche's A40 specification.

The universal averages include your dino oil and bargain basement oils.

Low>>compared to the Porsche approved 5W50 Mobil TDT... Do your research..

Also look at the VI or viscosity index.. For this engine we want it close to 200! The higher the number the better the base stock is.. Group 4 and group 5 ester are the top tier oils..

The best weight for the 996TT and 997TT is a 5W50! Unless you live up North..

When the engine HOT and at idle we want to see 2 bar of oil pressure thru the duration of the oil/change.

Dr No.. I'd recommend Mobil VTwin 20W50 for your 993.. Awesome air cooled oil, I have been using it for 5 years.. Many UOA show the wear numbers stable if not a reduction.

Interesting, thanks. The sales manager recommended 5W60 for a TT. Thoughts?

He's full a $hit with that recommendation!!!

The vario cam and high lift low lift tappets aren't able to work freely with a 60 weight!

Porsche does NOT approve ANY XW60 oils in North America.. 5W50 is the maximum. For those that want a great do it all oil Use Mobil 5W50.. If you have IMS noise or metal "bits" in your oil filter>run the Mobil 5W40 TDT.. Napa can get those oil ordered in.

I have done extensive testing with MANY engine oils on this engine platform.. Infact I'm going to be testing Penrite 0W50 Premium Full synthetic group 4 and 5 PAO ESTER oil in my 997TT. ZDDP levels at 1600PPM...

Sounds like I'll be trying the Mobil1 5w50TDT, heh.

Anyone have any thoughts on their MoS2 additive?

Mobil 1 5W50 >>change that to 0W40 when it gets below 20 degrees (if you drive in the snow) If the car is in the garage, I'd run the 5W50 all year round.

Thanks, I thought so. I'm going to stay with my 5W50 Motul 8100 X-Cess. I've had no problems with it.
