2009 TT vs. 991S?
My flame suit is on. LOL. I know I'm posting on 997 TT forum.
These 2 cars are converging in prices (early 991s).Other than possibly higher cost of turbo maintenance, would you, as a TT owner consider a 991s? Why? Why not?
I'm specifically interested in 2009 TT.
I have driven both and I honestly don't feel the difference regarding the electronic steering.
I love the 997 turbo exterior with the side gills and spoiler but the 991 is newer although I need to get used to the rear end. Electronics on 991 is better than 997.1.
(FYI: I have 997.1 NB)Any advice greatly appreciated.

^not sure where/what drive cycle you test drove each car. But you will notice the difference in steering performance in spirited driving with switchbacks or curves. Freeway (tollway) stuff you won't IMO...
You've captured the rest I think.
Both are great cars, but most folks here including myself are biased towards turbos (power, torque, easier to mod for power, respect, exclusivity, ..., wide body, ...)

The electronics on the '09 TT are the same as the 997.2; so they're similar, but lesser than the 991, and far more updated than the electronics of the 997.1.
The Turbo has more street cred than the NB 991, at least to me, but you'll feel the difference in the power and steering in more spirited driving (as Igooz states above), and on the track. The 991 is far quieter inside (much less tire noise), and in "S" guise is seriously fast with its PDK, but the turbo rush is a whole different animal...it all comes down to what you prefer.

I purchased the 2009 997 turbo but if I had to do it all over again I think I would go with the new 991s.
It's not as fast car as the turbo in a straight line but it's got a better balance.

You're spot on. Unfortunately I test drove the TT with the salesperson (from a Ferrari dealership) and he led me to a crowded highway. I couldn't appreciate the car. My thoughts were: it feels just like my NA 997.1...WTF?
With the 991, they gave me the key and I drove it myself.

When you own a TT it is almost impossible to go back to a non turbo Porsche.
If you own a 997.2 TT or TTS and try a 991S you will never buy it cause you will have the feeling it has no power.
Now if you don't own a TT it is not an issue and 991S can be a good option being a newer and great car. In the future, if you like it, you'll be able to buy a 991TT.
Even 997TT is a good option if you are looking for emotions.
So you can't go wrong: buy the one that gives you more emotions.

might as well be a comparo of a 2009TT to a 997 C2S…..
The 991S no matter how new is no 3.6 Turbo car with awd.
The only substitute/compario for a TT is another TT.
If you are looking at manual tranny 997 Turbo, it is the last of the manual tranny turbo. That is worth something in my books.
I have looked at new PDK 991C4S for a daily driver, and for the money id be happy with a PDK 997 TT.(more jam and im a sucker for 997 wheelbase)
I will be adding a 997 TT to my fleet at some point

I had a 997.1 C2S and moved to an 09 TT MT. I am keeping it forever. I haven't driven PDK nor 997.2 nor 991. But I don't think I could ever go back to a non-TT. They are all great cars, no doubt, but my 09 TT is a KEEPER, big time.

Would I trade the 997 TT for a 991 S?
Yes and No
Yes, because the 991 S:
- is bigger and has more room for my daughter (10 years old and a tall girl)
- is a better looker than the 997 (prettier), the lines the length, the bigger distance between front and rear axle.
- has a far better engine noise, the TT has a flat noise the 991 has more variations of tones and is towards the red line a screamer.
- is the modern car with the better "modern options" for Ipod, radio and navigation
- has the better riding qualities (safer, more grip, stability and comfort)
No, because the 997 TT:
- Is more special. All 991's look alike but there is a big difference in the 997 TT model in the front radiator, rear wing, side air scopes
- Therefore is the more aggressive looking car with big "uberholprestige".
- Has more power to justify the uberholprestige, I just like the driving in 6-th gear 2500 rpm and gently push the pedal to the floor. Lazy me...
- Is a future classic, all turbo's are also the 996. I really think prices of 997 TT wil get stable very soon and over a couple of years will rise. Where the 991 S wil just depreciate, depreciate, depreciate because in the end it's not a special Porsche
- biggest fan is my wife she says: "TURBO".... Well, she is bigger and stronger so the Turbo will stay.

Be advised that if you want a turbo with a manual transmission, you can get one up until model year 2013 as these are 997.2 turbos--they are not Turbo S models (those are PDK only). They're tougher to find as most turbos from '10 on were PDK, and of course, all 991 turbos are PDK-only.
