My car had tint when I bought it. Spent half a day removing it. It's unsafe at night, distorts the view from the rear window, and scratches easily.

My advice: get a nice pair of polarized sunglasses instead.

I didn't like the tint that came on my TTS's windows. Had it taken off. On the rear window, they encountered problems. The top two rows of wires in the defrost elements stuck to the tint when they started to remove it and they had to stop. Unless someone knows another way to remove, I can't get rid of it. That's too bad because it's terrible. You can't see any of the details you want to see out of the rear view mirror because the window is so dark.

I say go with the lightest tint.. You'll have no issues with police. Just make sure it's the best film and have good shop do the work. I have had tint in all my Porsches and never had an issue with it..

Agree with ilko and FasPilot - unsafe at night, especially through the rear view mirrors. My car came out of Texas where door glass tint is legal, but not in Calif. I left the rear side and back windows tinted and paid a tint guy $40 to remove the sides (money well spent - he had it done in about 45 minutes).

Have 30 or 35% I think. Disagree with the darkest you can get, looks bad. On the other hand I dislike completely clear windows, too many people stare at you...

The Conair Fabric Steamer did the trick for me:



They are under $30 in dept. stores. Watch some videos on youtube on how to remove tint with a steamer.

Nobody who responded lives in Denver. I have a holiday home in the mountains and am there frequently. Tint, do it.

I lived there and tinted but only 35% with a high quality ceramic (Huper Optik). Heat and glare rejection were great. My SUV had dark tint and it was dangerous to drive at night.

I used these guys (highly recommend) but I see they don't use Huper Optik any longer - great material but difficult to install.

Thanks ilko. Maybe a more macho effort with the steamer will work. The tint removal guys did use a steamer when they tried to get the tint off the rear window the first time. I know that because I made them demonstrate that the entire circuit of defroster wires had not been disabled by the loss of the top two wires. They steamed up the window and turned on the defroster to show it still worked.
For reference, the attached pic of my car before tint removal shows legal tint (driver window) and illegal tint (the quarter window behind). I don't know what tint percentages were used.

I've had tinters apply some film and/or a chemical to the old tint nd let it bake in the hot Texas sun for 3 or 4 hours and then remove the old tint. Your tinter should know about this process.
