The 997 turbo have a max boost of 21 psi so high boost shouldn't be a problem - they are doing that stock!

21psi? That seems completely unnecessary, considering the 996 is less than 1 bar?? Someone fill me in here?

Why wouldn't one wait for the dsg? If the tip is now significantly quicker, how much better will the dsg-equipped car be?
Does anyone know where the extra weight is coming from? Seems like there is an extra hundred pounds or so. AS

Maybe it was only 18 psi, here is a quote:

"A function in the optional Sport Chrono Package allows a 10-second, mid-rpm-range ‘overboost’, temporarily increasing turbo boost under full throttle by 2.9 psi, and swelling peak torque to 502 lb-ft. "

I don't know of any factory Porsche street cars running over .9 bar (~13psi) stock. This would be the first as far as I know (not counting the racecars, of course).

Turbochargers with variable geometry has been used before.

The 1989 Dodge Shelby Shadow CSX VNT used movable vanes around the turbine.

If that's the case, pretty hilarious that they're claiming this new breakthrough when Dodge did it over 15 years ago. Plus it's been used in diesels for ages.

Personally, I think Porsche is just trying to get as many gadgets and gimmicks into their cars as possible, so their salesmen have more acronyms to sell their cars with.

"This one has ABS, PSM, ASC, VTG, PASM, PCM, PDAS... and it was designed especially for drivers with PMS"

Yeah, I know they're not claiming to have invented the technology - but I think it's silly how many gimmicks they use. Of course, reading my earlier posts one would know that's one of a few problems I have with their design philosophy these days.
