Default GT3 Front brake pads

Howdy!

I'm a new member here. I currently own a .1 GT3 and the time has come to replace my front brake pads. I don't track the car, so it would be for street use and would love to reduce the squeal in the brakes whenever I roll to a stop sign. Do y'all have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!
T.B.

Assuming you have iron rotors, my favorite street pads are Hawk HPS. I've used them on several Porsches in the past and they have performed very well - low dust, no squealing and they are easy on the rotors.

I recently bought a set (from Pelican Parts) for my .1 GT3 but haven't installed them yet.

And BTW, welcome to the madhouse! Seriously, this forum is usually very entertaining and informative.

+1 for HAWK, i've had good luck with them and they are priced inexpensively.

For street I like the Race Technologies TS20. Extremely low dusting and even work pretty OK on track use (not great like a racing pad). I run these on my 964 for street, have on my RS too (just been a while since they were on there).
I've not used Hawks...

Thanks for the info! I have the OEM rotors. Will the HPS work with no issues?

I hope so, as right now I am looking at the ones I'm going to install in my .1 GT3. I will also be replacing the rotors as well with an OEM set. As I mentioned earlier, I've installed several sets of these in older Porsches including a 993 with factory Brembos, with no fitment issues.

Here are the part numbers for Hawk HPS pads for a 2007-8 997.1 GT3:

Front: HB483F.635

Rear: HB651F.624

Thanks so much for the help! I ordered them and am planning to install them this weekend. Let's hope for the best! I'll keep you posted

**UPDATE** I installed the Hawk pads and have put ~200 miles on the car since then. The dust is significantly lower indeed (as jackb911 mentioned above as well) but the squealing is still there. Slightly lower but at low speeds is still present. Do you think that it might be reduced as I put more miles on them? The rotors are brand new as well. Thanks for all the help!

i've used stoptech sport pads. they sell them on tire-rack - pretty cheap, low dust and low noise.
not nearly as much torque or bite as the OEM pagid pads but I can live with it.

Did you follow the bedding procedure?

HPS Pads shouldn't squeal - so rebed might be needed and needed every so often, even the OEM pads will squeal.

I've run HP Plus pads on another car and those are hopeless.

I called HPS and they told me that there might be some residue from my racing pads on the rotors and that might take some time and a couple of tries of the break-in procedure to get it off. So I will try that and see how it goes. Thanks y'all!

In my experience track pad deposits wont' just go away with use. Street pads aren't abrasive enough to clean the track pad deposits off. You may have to get a rotor hone and use it with a drill to clean the surface and re-bed your street pads fresh.
