Default 997 RS Clutch Feel

I have owned a MT car even since I got my DL. I would say, they are mostly thesame as far as clutch pedal feel. I really like an effortless clutch pedal. Thats why the paddle shifters became popular to me. But I still went back to a MT.

I would swear, this 997 RS clutch is the heaviest clutch even made. Ive driven trucks too.

Is there any mechanical or logical reason why it has to be this heavy?

I am planning to remove the pedal spring on my M5 and it just made me think what I can do to the RS?

997rs4.0 clutch a little lighter than 997.2 and .1. Still wouldn't consider it light and that's a fair chunk of money. But, seriously, people by these cars for several reasons INCLUDING the heavy, mechanical clutch. It's like a signature of the car. U bot the wrong car if want a light clutch. GT4 is super light imo. Heard the R is also, which would mean 991.2 Gt3 gonna be light.

As side note, all 997 non-GT clutches were super light compared to the GT's. Maybe you could go that route?

Are you serious? People buy these cars for the heavy clutch?

I bought this car for the analog feel. being a MT already satisfies that criteria.

Any other logical reason to it that is for the benefit of motor sports.

On hindsight, does any other race car like a NASCAR have this heavy clutch?

Not that this helps, the clutch effort on my GT3 is less than on my 928 GT.

Matter of fact, every mechanical effort on the 928 GT is greater.

The diaphragm springs in your pressure plate are worn/tired. Change clutch/pressure plate and bearing.Use the 4.0 clutch and pressure plate.

4.0 is the way to go.

But, yes, it still will be heavy. And yes, the heavy clutch is a trademark of these cars and it's part of the experience we insane 997 Gt3/2/RS enthusiasts seek out. You will find threads that complain about "flappy/light clutches" in comparison to 996/997 gt's.

It is the perfect feel/weight once it is on the track.

Ill ask my tech the next service.

Usually, when a clutch is as heavy as this, its time to change clutch plates. But I am the second owner of my RS and its been like this since Ive owned it.

I love the heavy clutch. As noted above, on a track or sprited drive on back roads, the weight will feel just right.
I remember having driven the GT4 and my immediate reaction was that the clutch was too light. This is subjective, but personally I much preferred the heavy RS clutch.

I think I understand your heavy clutch comment - I complained of this on my .2rs for over a year. Even with new clutch, TOB, PP etc. didn't help.

Took it to a different dealer - they identified the clutch slave needing lubrication and also replaced the clutch master cylinder. Covered under CPO so i know they were honest. Much better now - still" heavy" but feel it's working as it should.

When I bought my RS, the clutch was super heavy and got worse. Turned out the previous owner had abused the clutch and all was full of clutch friction plate dust which made all the moving parts bind. After replacement of pressure plate, clutch and throw out bearing, it was half the effort to push the clutch pedal, hope that helps.

Just do more calf raises at the gym or at home. I don't feel like the clutch is that heavy in these cars, but I also live in the gym. In fact when I drove the sharkwerks 4.1 I immediately
Put the clutch into the floor cause the 4.0 clutch/pressure plate is a lot lighter than .1 or .2 GT3 clutch.

Agree, it's the lightest of the 3. Also, the more they've been driven hard, they can be a little more rough than one with mostly street miles.
