Switching from 997.2GT3 to 997.1GT3RS
Dear fellow GT3 owners - I own a 997.2GT3 and, like many of you on here, I have the RS bug. After a failed attempt to buy a 997.2RS (car was just too beat up), I may have the opportunity to buy a 997.1RS in great condition.
Am I setting myself up for disappointment with such move, from a performance and driving experience standpoint? The latter is by far more important for me.
I did 10 DE days in the 997.2 last year, currently running in the whites.
Also, any views on the appropriate price delta between a 997.1RS and a non-RS 997.2 would be appreciated!
Thanks
Nick

From a performance standpoint - yes, you will definitely be disappointed. I wouldn't do it. Especially considering the price delta. $150-170K for the 997-1 RS vs $100-115K for the 997-2 GT3.
That said, if you were going to get a cherry example to hold on to for a long, long time, financially it would be a wise move.
If I were you I'd wait for the right 997-2 RS to show up.

Well on track guys they are the same.
And they dyno about the same
And they are geared the same.
The main difference is the stock shocks are better on the .2.
I personally prefer the 3.6 over the 3.8 non rs.
Get the rs.

.1RS without question, I've been in your shoes, you have an itch you need to scratch. The 3.6 with lightweight flywheel freeballs like no other. .1RS vs .2RS both are animals think cheetah vs lion.

Op said he wanted an RS.
flt6spd you'll have to let me park mine next to yours one day so she can see what her driven hard put away wet sister looks like :-)

Depends on what price you're able to get the .1RS. I think the .1RS is a special car. Not many made and I love the aesthetics. performance wise, the .2GT3 has improved aero and suspension, so I think you may be disappointed to some extend, that's assuming you're pushing the car to that limit

The only .1 RS I would do it for is a green one, just my .2

For the price difference I wouldn't do it personally. That's another car money! I'd love an RS, but at today's prices it's nowhere near the value for money a non rs is. At 3-4 year ago prices yes. But it really does depend on your financial situation I guess. For me 50 grand is a large sum, especially for no measurable increase in performance and possibly even a small step backwards. No question the RS is a very special car. But really so is a standard gt3. Good luck with your decision! Either way you are driving one of the greatest cars ever made!

More mid range torque with the 997.2, better suspension, and separate stability control and traction control. Porsche times at the Ring:
997.2 GT3 7:40.-- @ 161.22 kph .... 435PS / 1426kg (SA 06/09)
997.1 GT3RS 7:48.-- @ 158.46 kph .... 415PS / 1424kg (SA 03/07
With the 997.1 GT3RS you don't have center lock wheels. But if you are basing your decision on performance gains, you might be disappointed!
