The engine is very close. We keep having to push it off, for other important projects. The good news is it's given us some time to push some other projects through. Roller barrel ITB's anyone?

Working on the early prototype for this overnight the weekend.

We should have the 42R on the dyno before spring!

Any updates guys ?

I just drove a 991 GT3..... Needless to say I have zero Desire to sell my 997.1 GT3 to buy a 991 GT3 (thought it was a no brainer until i drove one). However a 4.2 might metzger sounds like a great idea!

Hope this will be released soon!

Have 2 42S in the shop finishing tuning on the Motec M1 PNP kit. Should have the 996 GT3 42S on the dyno this weekend. (42S is hydraulic lifters but upgraded cams, 42R has the full bevy of Ti, lightweight, friction reduction, and solid lifters in the valve train)

42R, liners are finally finishing and cams will be completed by month end. Spent a lot of time finding the right companies for the low friction extremely high tolerance liners liners we wanted to go with the two ring pistons.

Already have 2 other 42R's in the works for international customers.

Done right a 4.2 is explosive. Like shot out of a cannon. Do it.

Does the gearbox have to be upgraded for this amount of power?

Not to handle the power. The gear ratios may want to be revised due to the higher rev limit. Any GT3 that's driven will need synchros gone through and either replaced ior uograded. But no issues with handling the torque, the turbo's use the same gears!

Any Idea on costs yet or ballpark idea ? Also is it best to have my car sent directly to you for the work or removing the motor and transmission and sending it to you also works ? Located in Canada.

Finally will the final results be any different if I start with a 3.6 metzger vs a 3.8 unit or will the results be the same ?

Can't Friggen wait guys, looking forward to more info.

Hi Tom, Lots and lots of options with these builds. Shoot me an email with your number and we can discuss. We have 2 4.2L in the shop now that we're finishing the tuning, for 90% of folks will get them everything they ever wanted!

I can finally say soon... We've been waiting for a Formula 1 technology partner to finish up the DLC coated cylinder liners for us, they arrived end of last week.

We had some projects to finish up in the shop and then my 42R is finally going to see the light of day! Honestly very excited just to get back into my 997 GT3RS and drive it. Been driving my 991 GT3, and don't get me wrong it's a brilliant car, but it doesn't capture you like a 997 RS does...

This one keeps getting pushed back... Sorry for the lack of updates.

We did finish a customers 4.2L build and it was 465whp up from 430whp when it was a 4.0L. We will be adding some more goodies to it, namely our intake runners and we'll push this bad boy over 500whp...

The 42R is waiting on new lash caps from Europe, the ones sent were too thin...

Thanks Jamie. Looking forward to the final build numbers and working together in the future. Very interested in the intake runners.

Jamie, does the 42S version retain the three-ring pistons, or does it also utilize a two-ring setup? What do you expect the service life for the two-rings pistons to be? For my 997.1 RS pumpkin (street use only), I would rather have it rev slightly lower than have to worry about yanking it apart again for a re-ring. Great thread!!

42S is 3 ring pistons, not sure on the service life currently for the 2 ring pistons, we also did some experimental further friction reducing work on the cylinder liners that if successful will be quite a dramatic change.

The 2 ring pistons were more about making room for a longer rod for the 4.2.

And honestly with some of the forthcoming intake runner designs, a 4.0L with our intake runners will be far more power than a 4.2 without... So you can save some money if you wanted to!

Jamie
