Default Good news about the new 1rs

Cross post from the 991 gt3 RS thread

From http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche...and-new-engine The eagerly anticipated Porsche 911 GT3 RS will get a brand-new, naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine according to company bosses, with the unit eventually working its way into other models within the wider Porsche range. Details are scarce, but during an interview at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, Porsche R&D boss Wolfgang Hatz confirmed a completely new engine for the upcoming GT3 RS. There had been rumours of turbocharging within the 911 range – but Hatz insisted that would be reserved for lesser models, and only when the 991 variant gets an overhaul later this year. He also told us that the RS will be PDK-only to begin with, but that a manual hasn’t been ruled out in the long term. The dual-clutch automatic gearbox is the only option on Porsche’s standard GT3, but changes gear in a matter of milliseconds. Defending this decision, he said: “I have customers who said, ‘now we understand.’ PDK proved a lot of people wrong.” Hatz also commented on how he wanted to create more distinction for the 911 GT3 RS. He hinted that the GT3 RS will be a bigger step up than before, with more separation from the standard GT3 than we saw on the previous-generation 997 versions. Porsche 911 GT3 RS spies rear side “Performance has to be the main objective. Customers love the current GT3. The RS has to be the peak. The 991 GT3 was very much a surprise for everybody because it’s a very useable car for every day. The GT3 RS will be more extreme,” he said. There will be more changes to the body and more changes to the car’s aero in an attempt to shave even more time off the GT3’s already impressive 7 minute 25 second Nurburgring lap time. Hatz couldn’t go into what those changes might be, but we can expect a more sculpted exterior, with a lower ride height and an even bigger fixed wing. In other news, Hatz confirmed a new Cayman variant – likely the track-focused GT4 – for release in the spring. As a result it’s safe to predict a Geneva Motor Show debut in March. He said this too would be a step up from the previous flagship model, saying: “We’ve moved it a little bit up [from the Cayman R] – it’s a proper motorsport car.” The objective for Porsche’s investment in the Cayman GT4 is to create a road car that would be compliant with current regulations in the highly competitive race series. The GT4 European Series currently includes models such as the Aston Martin GT4 Vantage, BMW M3 GT4 and Lotus Evora GT4. If all goes according to plan, we could see the Cayman GT4 appear as soon as next season. Read more: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche...#ixzz3OnKwvr00

Interesting, a whole new motor for a RS. I hope it's PDK only so the 997 bubble doesn't pop.

I already heard the bubble burst. I couldn't be happier. Treating a 4 year old car as if it's already some sort of classic is a joke.

4.0, yes....every other 7 GT3/RS...no.

I've said all along, I'll be buying when prices come back to earth. The dealers and collectors who helped drive the hysteria....I have no sympathy for.

Prices are on their way down, if you analyze the for sale offerings. The inflection point has been hit.

Glad I sold my .2 for a .1. It's the same car, just a bit less torque and more raw.

Cosmos,

You better sell your car now if you want to break even.

I wonder what will happen to the 991 GT3 market. I bet it depreciates faster, percentage wise, than all the 997 GT3 markets did.

I believe the deal breaker will be if they offer the 1rs with a MT. Would be nice, because we would see a lot more 7gt3/RS at the track! But I doubt they will make a MT RS again.

This market is fun

"Honey the GT3 is an investment I can't drive it anymore, that's why I had to put deposit down on GT4"

I then show these stupid prices on cars and she agrees.

Next up convince her new RS is better investment than Bay Area housing buying versus renting and I'm golden

Im in your same boat of buying vs renting. Honestly the housing market will not sustain the way it is now, its absolutely outrageous. Id hold of on buying for about 2 years, while the market goes through the period of self correcting. But I understand your pain too, where you see horrible never updated 50+ year old 1400 sq ft homes homes renting for 4-6k/ month and these homes arent even worth 3k /month rental.

Agreed about prices of .1RS, especially since my .1GT3 has the same HP with an orig msrp of $137K, but is valued at $100K less.

However, RS colors with 1.7" wider hips and a big *** wing seem to have an erotic effect.

An interesting poll would be: How many would dump their 997 gt3 if 991rs offers manual? How many would keep 997 even if 991rs offers manual? How many are hoping they can buy a 997 cheap if/when they flood the market because 991rs offers a manual?

While I tend to think 997s will soften from here, I also think there's a lot of pent up demand below. I don't think there's a lack of bids waiting in the weeds. The question is how much new 997 supply would hit the market in response to 991 manual. I have no idea.

That poll would give a lot of information. Somehow I suspect the marketing department knew the answers.

I'll give you one data point: I'm not touching a 991 GT3 - and yes, I've driven one for two days.

The reality is that Porsche needed the 991, the 997s were not selling well in their twilight years. The company needs to make money. BMW sold its soul after the E39 M5. It's doing financial wonders. But drivers moved away. As a Bavarian, this bothers me but I'm glad there was an alternative - the 997. Now that's gone also.

I'm not selling my 997.1 GT3 - ever. But I did sell my 997.2.

There is a poll in the 1gt3 forum asking how many owners spend time on RL? To date about 150 guys. So that's less than 10% of buyers. Out of those maybe 50 % would consider a MT instead of the PDK? Thats just my guess. The RS buyer might be a little different, but the point is. We are a minority! There will be no MT offered! BMW is a good example, I would never consider a new m3/m4 over the old version but they are selling like crazy... WTF, engine sound in the speakers.
