I went thru my teen years in VA, and think that lovely state has more history than any other state in the Union. Just beautiful, from the the coast to the mountains. I also absolutely despise Virginia. When I was in the Bush in Vietnam, my first wife, who was back home in VA ran off with a lawyer, taking everything with her. I was greatly pleased when He died young of Cancer from his smoking. So for 40 years everything associated with that awful experience for me is just so tainted even to this day.
VA's ruthless persecution of trivial speeding is just vindictive.
I love living for the past 19 years in Upstate South Carolina, which has reasonable traffic enforcement. As an aside, I have only visited Texas a few times, and for many years have thought if I had to move to another state, I would like to live in Texas.
As for me, I run a Escort Redline detector, but stay maybe 8-10 mph above an Interstate limit, and only briefly exceed that when merging or needing to move around a slow vehicle. On some of the curvy very rural roads in my area, i do pick it up a bit.
Screw Virginia.
All the best....

Wowzers. I guess Ohio isn't the worst state anymore for speeding.
Escort claims that their new Redline is invisible to radar detector detectors as well.....I'm not sure I want to test that claim.

This is criminal ! Something should be done.
I would classify this as unresonable traffic laws.
You all need to join The National Motorists Foundation (NMA Foundation)
I am a member. They lobby to eliminate these kind of bogus traffic laws
The web site is www.motorist.org

Virginia should be booted out of the US for having such stupid laws, like jails weren't overcrowded already. Bunch of freaking idiots over there.

I grew up in VA, and could write a book about all of my run ins with the law in motor vehicles there.
I've been gone for 20+ years, but my folks still live there, so we get back a couple times a year to visit. My wife (not from VA) always says "WHY do they all drive so SLOW around here...??!!". Makes me laugh every time...

Better be careful
Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia.
In May, my wife and I will driving to a wedding in North Carolina from NYC, and going through Virginia, we will either take I-81 into I-77, or I-95 to I-85. Another possibility is Route 29.
Oh...and we'll be in a 997 GT2...

You are correct that radar detectors are illegal in Virginia but so is speeding and radar detectors are not moving violations. Just pay the fine and court costs and keep on driving. Be careful in a GT2 drive fast, safe and alert.

The facts on detectors: Virginia Code requires any detector that is seized as evidence to be returned. Seizure is not required.
Not to insinuate Virginia is friendly to drivers. I live here. It is not.

Is this an east Virginia thing because I've been driving through and around west/southwest Virginia for years and my experience is very different from what's being posted here?
