Terry, you and I met at NJMP in the Paddock garages. We have very similar cars. We haggled over seats at one point ;-)

Thinking along these lines...thanks Terry. The classic long hood is frankly an investment-and the insurance (ie "costs" from my OP) are almost nothing. The GT3 is what I call my "dead mans car", although if I stopped tracking, it could go, too.

The lady drives a 12 Land Rover-and loves it. It handles the family duties nicely.

Well thought out and put. Sometimes I think this is the most rational move. But, I hate golf... ;-)

I have not met anyone who sold a GT3 without regrets down the road.

Change your 991 lease to a Macan S, or Cayenne S if you need towing.

I was about to trade my 2010 GT3 for a new aero GTS or GT3. The sales rep convinced me that the price delta on the two would be lost in the first year. Plus just about every one on here that has driven the new GT3 on the street says they are fairly civil compared to the previous models. I went with the new GT3.

I'd keep the GT3 too. At least it won't depreciate much if any now.
I was DD my 2013 991 C4S PDK. I hated the PDK, ruined the car for me somewhat. It was the best DD I have ever owned though, I live in Toronto and I used it all year round, and like the OP, I used it to transport my 3.5 year old daily.

But the GT3 is an entirely diff animal and I LOVE the manual!!!! So in the end I sold the 991 , picked up a 2010 GT3, and a Golf R. Now I got the best of both worlds and the Golf R is a great DD.

Smart man!!! This sounds like a very well thought out solution. If you sell the 7-3, I guarantee you will regret it one day. I sold one about two years ago and regretted it ever since. Fortunately I was able to score a 7.2-3 recently, and vow to not make the same mistake again.

This. Just get your priorities straight and figure out what toys you can afford to keep. To replace old toys with new(er) toys is not cost effective.

Or retire and spend it before the government takes it and gives it way.

Nathan, I think you forgot to mention the uber motor! I sold my white GT3and bought the car in my avatar last fall. It's great when it runs. Good luck with your dilemma - we all have it.

You can sell the 991 fairly easily. It does not need to be traded in to get rid of it. Call up PFS and ask them for the buyout (this is not the sum of the remaining payments). There is a set depreciation schedule just like a purchase and you can buy it out at any time. I do this about once per year with my cars as I rotate through.

Interesting. Haven't heard of this, but I've also never leased a car. I assume you'd have to have the buyout cash up front, otherwise you won't have your title in hand for when you sell it. Or is it possible to first find a buyer and use their payment towards buying out the car from PFS like if you had a car loan?
