Hi all.

These are the latest pictures of the 991 GT3 in testing (published online a few days ago on a European forum). Interestingly the front shot of the vehicle is totally without camouflage so we can now see what the car is likely to look like. Given the lack of camouflage one wonders if Porsche intend to unveil the car at the Paris Motor show on 29 September, although it is generally accepted the unveiling wont take place until the Geneva Auto Salon in March 2013? This is entirely possible as there will be a number of impressive new vehicles on show from competitors (McLaren will be there - their first show ever!). Perhaps the 991 Turbo will be unveiled in March?

Researching the web, reading forums and other article and interviews it would appear the spec is starting to become more clear. Price looks like MSRP could be 14-15% more than the outgoing 997.2 2010 GT3 - assuming of course that PDK is the only transmission option (typically a 4000 euro option on the 991S). Base price in Germany for the base spec 2010 GT3 was 98100 Euro + Sales Tax. Budget on 133,000 Euro including tax for base car with standard a/c + PDK.

Most popular options are still likely to be PSM2, Chrono plus and sport bucket seats I'm guessing.

This is my hunch for the launch specification. its going to be a game changer...

• PDK only. This will be a "flappy paddle" system and will possibly have slightly tweaked software for the GT3.
  
• 1360-1365 KG. Although the PDK transmission adds weight the new 991 construction reduces overall weight considerably.
  
• 20" centre lock wheels. Standard brakes = steel.
  
• Electronic steering gear will remain but may benefit from tweaks for GT3
  
• 0-100 kmph time of 3.8-3.9 seconds assuming PDK mandatory tranny option.
  
• Top speed estimated at 320 kmph
  
• Ring time between 7.28-7.30 mins based on 991S time vs outgoing 997.2 GT3

All of the above IMHO of course! Any way you look at it the 991 GT3 looks like it will be a brilliant drive...

The 997 GT3 looks very old next to the 991 GT3.

I hope the 991 GT3 base price starts around $150k before options, so the prices on the 997.2 GT3 stay firm, and hopefully the 991 GT3 RS sells for $200k plus options.

This time the GT3 should be released before the 991 Turbo, as the demand for the GT3 gets stronger with every new version, and the GT3 owners are loyal to the GT3 badge, so it is a growing market.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised when they remove the camouflage from the rear of the 991 GT3 prototype. If you look closely you can see the front bumper is already sporting some very aggressive large openings and in my mind looks very aggressive especially when combined with the 991s lower and wider stance. Final production wheels, fully unveiled slotted and vented rear bumper and final rear spoiler choices are all we have left for the imagination now.

I do think the MSRP for the 991 GT3 will be around $150k usd. The GT3RS version will definitely be closing in on $200k usd also. Residuals for the 997.2 model should hold up ok but I suspect we will see the earlier version drop back.

I think we will see a big performance gap between the new 991 GT3 and the outgoing GT3. The 991 GT3 is likely to be quicker by a small margin than the 997.2 GT3RS and the 991 GT3RS will likely lead the GT3 4.0 dynamically too. Porsche needs this as its products are up against very stiff competition over the next few years...

Thanks for the new photos. Any update information about what will be the engine in the 991 GT3?

Will it still be a Mezger engine, or just a pump-up version of the 991 Carrera S engine, or something totally different?

I believe it will be based on the 991 engine (but this is supposition). What I am fairly confident in is that it will have an output of between 450-455 bhp...

I for one don't hope the base price is $150K. I think more realisticaly, based on previous 997 prices, that base will be around $132 - $135.

We are all behind you on the price, however Im afraid its unlikely to be. Its already confirmed by those in the know that the 991 GT3 will have a higher retail price than the 997.2 GT3. Remember not only have three years passed but also Euro-US exchange rates have changed and besides the 991 base models have seen a price hike I believe to reflect the more advanced materials used (or perhaps just the increased margins required by VAG!). Then there is the PDK box if this comes to pass as a mandatory fitment. That's not free unfortunately....

Hey look on the bright side. US Porsche's are the cheapest in the world (even cheaper than Germany). Better yet the 991 GT3/RS will provide the best value package in a world of increasingly expensive performance machinery (think new McLaren P1, MPC12, 458 Italia, Gallardo).

Im just glad we are all hooked on porsches and not some other over priced exponentially increasing exotica LOL!

Thanks for the post! Don't you think history will repeat itself with pricing for the base 991 GT3 (limited options) will be similar to a 991 C2S loaded up with options?

Yes I believe what you are saying would be correct. Using the European configuration if you take a base 991S (104,000 Euro including tax), add some adaptive sport seats with ventilation, full leather package with some CF highlights, PCM2. chrono sunroof, sports suspension and PDK along with say a dozen other small items and an aero kit you come to approximately 133k including tax Euro which is what I believe the GT3 will be including tax - for the base spec in Germany.

I dont know how that translates to US market pricing but your logic is sound. Base 991 GT3 = loaded 991S pricewise.

The good thing with the base GT3 is there really isnt a hell of alot you would want (or are actually allowed) to spend on it apart from PCM2, chrono plus and maybe some interior frill.....

No worries, we have a lot of posters to this forum that can build it for a lot less! They can simply use a 2007 GT3 as a donor car and buy some suspension parts and a carbon hood from Getty and have their shop install them. Voila! A faster car for less money!!

The 9A1 engine...997.2 2009-2012 and 991 2012- is a great engine and it's really doing well in Rolex Grand Am Series with BGB and Rum Bum racing.

I never owned a GT series Porsche (GT2, GT3), so I can't tell what the price will be for the new 991 GT. Yet I do have experience with TT and TTS prices from the time of 993 to date.

1997 993 TTS price was $150k. Latest 997 TTS price $160K.

That's an increase of 7% over a "15 year" period !!!!!

Put another way, incremental increase of 00.46% / year
