Porsche is recalling certain model year 2010 911 GT3 vehicles manufactured May 15, 2009, through February 11, 2010. The rear wheel hubs may be prone to failure under certain driving conditions. Also, the original, suggested maintenance intervals may be insufficient to prevent wheel hub failure.
Consequence:
If the rear hub fails, there may be a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wheel hubs on the rear axle free of charge. The service interval specifications will also be revised and provided to owners as part of Porsche's owner notification letter. The recall is expected to begin in December 2012. Owners may contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.

They did not change them, just inspect and new nuts.
gstahl, if they changed your hubs originally under AB01, I doubt you'll have much leverage as you would have had the later hubs on your car... If the dealer didn't change the hubs back then, you may have leverage against them on the basis of failure to update your hubs to the revised units or a claim against the dealer for failure to detect signs of wear and perform the recall correctly... Just an opinion based on the info I received for myself today...

Thanks Pete and Chris for the updates..
A classic case of an expensive but still inept solution to a problem that should never have existed in the first place.
I was sad to see my favorite car manufacturer throw common sense down the drain with this marketing derived, center-lock-for-a-street-car design.
But this new development, at the expense of their hardcore/fundamental customer base, saddens me even more.
For a quick seppuku Porsche's bean counters should now raise the cost of the 5 lug setup..
A classic case of an expensive but still inept solution to a problem that should never have existed in the first place.

Maybe try calling the phone contact phone # and name at the end of this letter if you still don't have any satisfaction. Maybe, I am hoping, they will look at your case with a little more consideration. It might also help if you fall within that VIN range which is now publicized in this letter.

I see it a reason why in the future a CL car will be worth much much less unless a five lug conversion is done.
Kind of like a cup.....im in the market. If you buy a fresh cup you have to trust the person you are buying the cup from is honest with the hours the car has the mainntenance done (most dont keep GOOD records). some have it, some lie, some dont have it. When I get a cup I am assuming nothing has been done and I will just refresh so I know time out hours on all items
If I bought a used GT3 or RS I would figure in the sales price that the hubs, carriers and bearings were trash and replace them at purchase. When you buy a used RS you have no idea who maintained it, if they did perfomed proper wheel installation, most dont......food for thought when was the last time you had your torque wrench recalibrated, think its in caribration after bouncing it off the ground a few times?
The time out that Porsche has given is probably based on running stock tire combos. Wonder what time time out is for Hoosiers.....or worse slicks. Im sure it is much sooner than published

Pete, there are no unaffected RSs champ... The hubs on the early GT3s are being replaced with the hubs on the RSs and they now need to be replaced every 7k km... Therefore RS hubs are now acknowledged NOT to be up to the task and are being timed out!!! Everything with centrelocks including your 4.0RS just dropped $20k in resale value (cost of wheel hub replace front/rear) thanks to their stunt! The maintenance schedule affects everything with centrelocks... In true Porsche form of late, they just haven't gotten around to letting the customer know of the new maintenance schedule... Just like in 2010 when they revised the torque from 500Nm to 600Nm but this info remained at dealer level until mid 2011 when recall campaign AB01 was rolled out and they sent a manual supplement to customers...
I'm sure some tool is working on a supplement now that we will receive in late 2013 after a few more have lost wheels...

You guys are paranoid, my reality is much more suitable and I have not seen a single RS fail.
They are fine, many RS getting beat to snot at Sebring, many have a carp load of track miles. No issues until I see issues.
The latest RS sold today for almost 50K over sticker, we dont seem to care.
To replace costs the same as replacing a timed out 5 lug. Same time out, just fewer operator errors.
Just changed wheels a few hours ago, love, love, love my centerlocks.

If they'd just put RS hubs on gt3s and no maintenance schedule... Agreed, we are paranoid...
RS hubs on gt3 and implementation of a 7k km time out schedule... porsche's way of saying they are junk and they have no confidence in them...
Lets not kid ourselves...
5 lug hubs don't time out requiring carrier changes to avoid wheel loss... Their bearings time out which is a fair cop...
