Time to mount the winch--anyone have pics of how they did it?
I am going to mount the Warn 3700 on my Trailex 8045. I am planning to mount it to the passenger side a bit, given the off-set of the tow hook. To be perfect, I should elevate it a bit, but too much obviously will put more torque on the securing hardware. Do I need to at all? What did you guys do? Could also secure it in the bed of the truck, then lower the tailgate, and there you go. Options.

Trailex has a winch mount kit don't they?
I would not worry much about the offset - mine is center mount and its not really an issue when winching the car on

I have that option, and currently have the hand winch mounted on it. I was thinking of keeping that as is for when the battery is dead, or winch has an issue. But the thought of mounting in right there would save me some grief.

I just mounted the trailex winch on my 8045.
At first i mounted the winch without the stand to keep it low for low vehicles without tow hooks.
But,
I decided to use the stand afterall since i paid for it and it looks proper. Centered of course.
The stand is a bitch to install. You would have to take apart the trailer just to slide the damn bolts in the frame rails!
I had to drill the frame rails to allow access points for each bolt used to secure the stand so i wouldnt have to take apart the trailer.
Only real complaint about winch now is the chrome roller wheels rust easy .....

I would put it there
Presumably if you are using a street clutch you will be driving the car on to the trailer unless it is disabled as it is far easier/quicker to just do that
The offset is really no big deal
Mount it up there easily and try it - if it proves to be an issue - then consider an offset mount

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I just got an 8045, and it came with the winch mount, but no electric winch. How did you guys go about installing one? The winch itself seems straight forward, but what about a battery and integration with harness for charging?

I made/welded a battery box frame from steal, painted it silver and bolted it to towards the neck of the trailer frame. (See photo of black box on drivers side. Also see where "Trailex" logo plaque is located as reference.)
I used an ultima marine battery and a black plastic battery box as part of the installl.
You will need to hardwire the battery to to trailer plug so that it can get alternative power from your truck battery. I have not done this yet on ether trailer. Plan on doing it this summer.
(sorry for crappy pic, I am away from home and had this pic on my laptop collection)

Thanks! I was kind of hoping there was a kit to install the battery and integrate into the harness without getting too cute with it.

I have a deep cycle marine battery and a 13.5 watt 110V solar charger from HF that folds up like a notebook. I just leave the solar charger hooked up whenever the trailer is sitting and throw it in the truck when I tow. It keeps the battery charged. You need an overcharge protector in the circuit that swaps the 110AC to 12DC. I can show you mine. Cheap to set up. Get a winch that already comes with synthetic winch rope.

Installed my winch this weekend on a Trailex 8045. Superwinch Terra 35 with a wireless remote. Power if running off SUV battery. It was pretty straight forward. If I had to do it again I would go with a Superwinch trailer S4000 winch because it's self contained and shielded from the elements...but I was unwilling to wait 2 months for the factory to ship it.

you guys are way high speed... I just bolted a receiver box on the bed of my Feather lite trailer I have a winch on a mountable hitch.. I can move the winch to the front of my truck or put it on the trailer to pull the car up. When not in use I just pull the pin and put in the toolbox... Used it twice on the front to pull folks out of the sand on the beach.
I can take a pic later tonight when I get home if you want to see it..
