R.I.P.
this is a video posted on youtube by RL member 'wild999', liam wild.
liam used to post on the 996gt3 section and owned a 2004 gt3 stripper.
i had never met liam even though he was a fellow member of the local porsche club,
and had spoken to him on rl and planned to meet up at the next supersprint event late last year.
unfortunately, liam was sick at the time and couldn't run at the event.
liam had cystic fybrosis and sadly, passed away in january. his gt3 was driven behind the hearse to the burial. liam had bought his gt3 only a few years prior to realize a boyhood dream.
by all accounts, he lived life to the fullest. he was in his early 30's.
the gt3 had an illustrious history, with many famous owners and even competing in the aus gt championship early on.
i never met him, but maybe some people here on rl had spoken to him previously, so i'm just relating the story i just recently read in the club magazine.

Look how well those pedals are setup on Cory's car, blips look soooo easy. Wish my car was like that.
Jenk, you never met Cory and Gordon and those guys at Road Atlanta? They are there all the time.
What time on what day will you be at the track? You got video?

I didn't think that was cory. I thought his user name was coryF...?
If your talking about AMP, I'll be there on Friday morning but everything will be slow. They said no hard acceleration or deceleration

That's why the blips look so easy--because the auto blipper is doing them!

I was wondering if that was an auto blip - thanks. Sheds some light on the PDK only on 991-3s discussion ... It's the 3rd step after seq to auto blip to ... no clutch.

Jenk yes I remember meeting you at VIR! You are not an easy person to forget meeting! My two sons were there and it was about 110 degrees in the shade.
Re the auto blipper, I think I (and many) cup drivers can consistently blip very well without it. I just bought it for insurance and the reality is that this is one less variable that you have to contend with in a race environment.
A great driver would be 2 to 2.5 seconds a lap faster that my best lap. I could never quite go flat from T1 to the bus stop (other than my qualifying lap on brand new tires) so I am leaving time there.
Even though I sold this car and have been on the sidelines for a while I welcome comments as I will get a car at some point.

Yes, noticed the big feathering most laps in 2 spots between T1 and the top of the esses. Also a pretty big one exiting the bus stop into 5...except when you did a short upshift and then it appeared you could use more throttle because the car was more stable.

or is it totally irrelevant from classification standpoint if it is a 996 tub or 997 cup tub if it gets 997 drivetrain? how does all that work?

Mock race at the end of the BMW race school last weekend. No qualifying, just start wherever. I happened to start at the front, and drove a defensive line to keep a green RS at bay. Was interesting to drive looking at the mirrors so much.
Filmed by "cwhota", who had a rough start, and got passed by a few. He then made a heck of a recovery and caught up with us at the checkered.
Last lap starts at 10:00.
