Default Nitto NT01's ?

Has anyone used NT01's on a 997.1 GT3 with 18" wheels?

They have a 245/40/18 front that is essentially the same diameter as the stock tire. However, the only rear choice is a 315/30/18. The diameter is slightly smaller than stock and is slightly smaller than the front tire.

Basically two questions if you have tried this combination. Will the rear tires fit? Does the size discrepancy cause any problems?

Also open to other suggestions for an 18" DOT-R tire. No trailer, so slicks won't work. A couple tracks are 3 - 4 hours away. I want something I can drive there and back. I know R888's will work, but they get mixed reviews.

R888 suck.
I think I remember someone at the track saying that the smaller rears with the Nitto will cause problems with the onboard computer, ABS or traction control or something.
I bet someone here on RL knows a lot more about this than me.

Apparently some are using the 315-30-18 without issue, but I prefer more sidewall for more grip and progressiveness.

You could use the 235-35-18 front tire, instead of the 245-40-18, which would help even more with regard to the diameter discrepencies.

The faster you are, the more problems you might have. Nitto is entertaining the idea of making a tire in the 305 or 315 size with the correct 35 aspect ratio. They make that tire, then every GT3 owner will be in hog heaven.

Nitto does have a perfect sized rear, 305/35/18 that is the perfect diameter. Sadly it's a NT555RII. It may be the same compound, but I suspect mixing tread patterns would be worse than a rear tire that's a bit too small in diameter!

that 305 is so tall... not sure, i did not drive such tall tires in a long time. but you are right, damn thing is properly sized and is wide enough. 315/30 tire is 12.6" wide. so this 305 may indeed work with both 245 or 275 fronts. i did not even think of that, it is a good find, imho.

NT01:

245/40ZR18
25.55" tall
9.72" wide
8.0-(8.5)-9.5 rims

275/35ZR18

25.55" tall
10.91" wide
9.0-(9.5)-11.0 rims

NT555R II:

305/35ZR18 101Y
26.30" tall
12.48" width
10.0-(11.0)-12.0 rims.

I have sent Nitto multiple emails basically begging them to make a 305/35/18 tire. I dont know why they are not making that tire. Would sell like crazy....

Same here, and I keep doing it. They will listen, at some point. They have atleast recently acknowledged and said they are looking into the production of these new sizes, but can't confirm when it might happen.

Time and pressure.

At least you got a response. Never got a reply from them, but good to hear they are aware of the demand. Hopefully they come through....

I'd prefer 315 30 18s and 255 35 18s which can only be found in the 888s if you want to break away from those pricey hoos.

888s aren't that bad if you run low pressures like 22 starting on a hot day. 888 side wall is really stiff so you can get away with running those low pressures but if you start out with the more tradition 27 or so psi they will blow up, get greasy on you and literally melt down the center of the tire.

Is the NT01 a real noisy tire on the highway like the R888?

Lots of tail dance under hard braking on the R888 on the 9971.1 GT3. Staying with the expensive Hoohoo's for now. My R6 rears are also 315/30/18 like the Nitto. I'd be up for sending Nitto a mass call for proper DOT tire sizes for our cars. How do we organize?

NT-01s are not that bad. I put on 2k street miles this winter on NT-01s while breaking my engine in.

I'm on it for you guys. Talking to corporate Nitto guy today.
I have 996 GT3 and am fine with the sizes they have now, but understand the need for different size rears for the 997 GT3 folks. i love the NT-01 and would like everyone to be apart of the love.
