As I read the posts I am a bit confused.
Why is this set up a new thought?
In August 2007 on my 997.1 yellow GT3 I had installed the FVD headers / 200 cell cats / elbow tubes and the STOCK center section (not a muffler but a resonator).
Removed the side mufflers which weighed 21 lbs each on the Champion Motorsport digital scales.
Never an issue with the stock center section to date. The current owner who's a great friend keeps me informed.
Also btw no power loss. Gained 22 rwhp.
Would post videos/pics but can not for the life of me make this forum be user friendly. Does not respond like any other forum.
Additionally I will not get into it b/c I'm done with it but I will never understand why all you guys wet your shorts over Akcrap.

I think the cup exhaust is ideal, but it should work with ti final muffler provided it is a later ti one. Not sure what I got under warranty.
They updated the cup brackets too and they fixed the problem of them breaking on the cup cars.
Keeping stock headers and cats.

Appearantly you can tell from how they are welded. I will take it to orbit tomorrow and i am looking for a steel gt3 muffler to try to see if I like the sound and keep my brand new final ti exhaust in the box.

We should be done in time for Dyno day

Im told the stock center muffler is not really designed to be a "solo" muffler and heat becomes an issue in the stock center if using side deletes....

Im going to give it a try this summer as the concept of dropping the two heaviest mufflers makes sense. A test if you will...

Any body have spare flanges that allow the stock center muffler to connect to the sides so i can give this a whirl??
I have misplaced my flanges as i never have used the stock mufflers since ownership.
(the side deletes require these flanges to mate to the stock center)
I think I have a set, send me PM

08- 997 cup muffler is about $1500 and the two elbows are $450 each from PMNA. You can fabricate your own elbows for a lot less though. They are just 90 degree bends with two flanges. Any good muffler shop can make it.

Does the cup rear exhaust have the same exhaust gas dispersion as the stock two side hole RS muffler......I do not think it does.

It has similar dispersion, as there is a gap between the muffler outlet pipes and the J-pipes. Therefore, at high exhaust gas flow-rates (high rpm, high load), there is minimal muffling.

Crazy question, does anyone have a cut away of both?

When cruising, you can comfortably hold a conversation. It's surprisingly bearable considering it's a race-car exhaust!

It'll drone if you lug the engine at low rpm in a high gear, but you're not supposed to be doing that anyways.

I installed the Akrapovic Sports Cup on my .1 RS. It delivered the advertised weight savings of 46 lbs. It also seems slightly quieter than OEM with Sport Button on. If sound is important, most would say it doesn't sound as good as a bypass. I've not dynoed - Akra's claim of modest hp/torque increases above 3,300 rpm, and loss below makes sense.

This will be figured out next weekend. Stock exhaust is on my car and we will dyno then put Akra on car for same day dyno

Quieter is better, I have some sound restriction tracks for 2012

Bypass is good for cars and cafe, but I see no reason to keep the bulky side mufflers

Here's the 997 GT3 cutaway. The CUP muffler is almost identical except the cup doesn't have the upper pipes.

That being said, I would venture to say that the the CUP and stock 997 center section should sound similar with J-pipes directly off the cats.

Your cup looks like no upper connection, so no pipe termination

I woudl like to see a cup cut away

Europipe posted cutaway pictures before, but I cant find it on search

Funny thing with x-pipes, cross-overs and such. From WAY back in my small block chevy days you wanted the crossover at the point where the exhaust was the hottest spot off the headers (actually I did a paper on this back in grad school for CFD course). Pretty simple these days to figure out with a simple IR gun. Most vendors are not even close to optimal. Funny. But guess a little is better than nothing.

Like I said, it's the same muffler, except it doesn't have the upper pipes past the perforated baffles. I had a pic but I think it's on my old phone.

Europipe's cutaway of the stock muffler:
