Question Something is not right ... Kumho tire size

I got another set of shorter profile Kumho V710 because the one I have now rub the front inner fender lining and I can't lower to my desire ride height. The diameter difference between these sets of tires are as follow:

245/40/18 (square shoulder) 25.5" mounted
245/35/18 (round shoulder) 24" not mounted
Difference of 1.5"!?

315/35/18 (round shoulder) 25.75" mounted
305/30/18 (square shoulder) 25" not mounted
Difference of 0.75"

Toyo RA1 245/40/18 has diameter of 25" not mounted

So why is the front Kumho 245/35/18 so short!!?? Tirerack indicated that Kumho V710 245/35/18 have a diameter of 24.8" mounted and 25.7" for 245/40/18. I highly doubt the 245/35/18 tire will stretch an extra 0.8" after it's mounted and inflated - unless it's infused with Viagra. Take a look at the pictures below ... WTF! My speedometer is already off by about 5-6 mph on the slightly smaller 245/40/18 Toyo RA1 and now it's all going to be totally mess up with the midget Kumho V710 245/35/18

From left to right, Kumho V710 245/40/18, Toyo RA1 245/40/18, Kumho V710 245/35/18

Significantly shorter front Kumho V710 245/35/18 vs rear 305/30/18

The mounted diameter Kumho V710 245/40/18 is almost identical to the rear 315/35/18

Hey Mikymu, the 35 is the % of the width which is approx 245mm. Since you didn't go wider to compensate for the lower profile, according to my calcs, those tyres should be 24mm shorter theoretically, which they certainly look... Its hard to say whether mounting the tyres and inflating could possibly close the gap to the 40 profile tyres...

Yes. The tire side wall is calculate by taking the width in mm times 1/10 the second number on the tire code. So 245/40/18 will have 98mm tire wall vs 85.75mm on 245/35/18. This amount to 24.5 mm total difference or 1" - this still does not account to the 1.5" difference in diameter between the two tires

Shim already added ... not a fan of spacer. Rub is the major concern. When you have a off on the track (which is very often for yours truly) you are at risk of slamming into the fender and bend it. I am not incline at this point to do a RSR fender flare addition by accident lol

I think I will return the 245/35/18 round shoulder and get a set of the 225/40/18 square shoulder. Even though 225/40/18 is not as wide as 245/35/18, it has square shoulder which will give it more cornering contact surface vs round shoulder

This does not rub ... LOL

lol

We still see them once in a while rumbling through town here at California. Most of these "bling" wheels are pawn off. Kids without job with parents just got laid off can not afford the old school EURO look

Now here is a fine example of a Euro look car. Notice the front lip clearence..
The engine bay..
And the rub if you breath BBS wheels (always BBS) and tyres?

I know! Kumho need to have more size options for V710 ... GREAT tires! Bringing your smart car to Laguna Seca next week?

Reviving an old post....

But what sizes would ultimatley recommend for a .1 car in the Kumho's? Were there any issues with ABS, etc...?

Looking for some options.

none of the combinations will fail or trigger ABS errors.

If I were you, I would run 245/35R18 and 305/30R18, improved gearing, and very fast tire, about as fast as the R6, but longer lasting. I ran it for 2 years back in 2005/2006.
