I was just looking around my 997 GT3 and inspecting the technology just like I did with my 6 GT3 and my 993TT. The easy way for me to do this was to use the rear jack point and put a jack stand on the front and the remove the jack and put a jack stand under the rear. thats Exactly What I did this time and even though this is a new model I still looked to see that the jack point were still where they were on the 6 and 993. No probelms on the drivers side and I move over to the passenger side and started to jack up the car as I have done a hundred times before and I am two pumps from getting it to the jack stand and I hear sickening crunch the car had slipped off the jack and was resting on the rocker. the qtr panel had buckled in and looked terrible-But it looked like one of those fix a dent fixes. So I took it to my body guy here in town and he said no prob. 3 hours $150_ so I go get it today and he said the
whole side on that side was crunched in. He said it was one of the weakest jack points he had ever seen- He said you could see where the Jack pad had scraped across the whole jack point. In other words I had at least had the jack pad on most if not all the jack point and the jack point was bent as if it had bent and the jack just slipped off it. When I looked at my jack point that nite I remember thinking 'Gawd that looks so little-Well Porsche wouldnt have put a Jack point where one shouldnt be" Well maybe I was wrong. Now its still a minor fix but its going to be $800 instead. My point here is get the little rubber pad and make sure your jack is on the Jack point perfectly before jacking up the car. Any slight mistake and you will pay for this. like I did.
Never had this happen before-hope it never happens again.
My jack is a decent craftsman racing jack I paid about $200 for. Its not like a $20 Harbor Frieght jack.
Just be careful.

Thanks for the info. I saw that the jack points are really small and intend to be careful. I think the 'ol hockey puck is called for...cheers!

Weird. I've had no such problems with my crappy jack.

I have never had a problem either. And I awlays do a double take when I put the jack under.
I just remembering thinking how little those points were. And when the body guy said he would be nervous using any of these pads that made me perk up and pass this on to you guys. He also said the
jack point was not well supported. I have the hockey puck but my jack has a rubber pad on it too and ever since I got this jack I have only used the puck twice. Guess it would have paid to use it more often.

Just be careful.

hum?? the jack points on my car is rather LARGE compared to my other cars.
i prefer to use AC hydraulic jacks. otherwise you really need a piece of wood b/n your jack and the jacking point. otherwise it WILL slip, only a matter of when.

I use something like this. As you can see from the pics, the jack puck actually locks into the slot on the underside of the car. I've actaully even gone one step further and put a rubber pad between the "locking tab" and the puck. Never had any slips.

i dont have my car right now. but i recall the hole in the jack point of a 997 is round, does the tab on the C6 pad fit?
