IMS CarFax Record on `07 997.1 4S
Hey guys, I am looking at a 2007 997.1 4S and it has the following carfax record:
2011 28K Miles:
Axle Bearing replaced
Engine cleaned
Front crankshaft oil seal replaced
Transmission removed to complete
Do you think this indicates that IMS was replaced or is this something else?
Car currently has 55K miles on it.
Thanks!

It's no wonder the Europeans are laughing at us with our ridicolous IMS concerns and the subsequent pathetic class action lawsuit money grab - I know some of them wish they lived here so they could buy four or five 997.1's for dirt cheap.

OP, not sure why they would remove the transmission to replace the front main seal. Axle bearing...hmm, could be a wheel bearing, could be the IMS bearing. Hard to say.
The trouble with this record is you don't know if the tech put it in or a clueless service advisor or what. I'd want to see actual receipts and such

stop acting like the IMS doesn't exist. You just look ignorant.

I know that IMS on 997.1 is not as big of an issue, but there are still plenty of people reporting that they had to replace it.
Figured I would ask

For an 07, the car should have the larger non-replaceable (without teardown) engine.
What probably happened during this service was a wheel bearing and an RMS (not front seal) replacement.

Also you cannot replace IMS bearings after 05 builds without an engine tear down - and zero need as they are the larger upgraded version. The early 2005 builds are the smaller bearing and you can replace those when doing the clutch/RMS etc quite easily.
