Default rear bumper bump outs

I search but was not sure if these have another name? To those who have switched these out is it a difficult job to replace those small bumper bump outs on the rear of the car (09 997.2). Also would it be better to have them come painted or have a shop do it?

Some nice person decided to cram their car against mine, scraping both somehow?

They are called bumperettes. I believe you need to remove the rear bumper to replace them. Removing the rear bumper is not difficult if you're somewhat handy.

I posted a do it yourself thread herein some time back for removing and replacing the bumperettes. I highly recommend that you retain them. They are cheap insurance against full rear end replacement.

Thanks Dan, they are already coming in handy for protecting the bumper from idiots

if you just want to reuse the black ones, sand them with a wet 320 or coarser untill you get the scratches out, then sand with 600 and paint with SEM bumper coater or black trim color

I can tell you from experience removing mine for the same reason that they are a breeze to R&R once you have the rear bumper cover off. They just snap into place on the rear bumper cover and remove just as easily.

If this isn't your DD and you have a garage, remove the bumper cover yourself and then remove the bumperettes. Take them to a body shop and they'll repaint and clear them.

Yup takes 2 seconds once rear bumper is off. I hate the way they look but there is no problem denying I would rather have bumperettes replaced/repainted vs the entire bumper

I just had mine mashed in by some idiot pick up driver. It does not look like anything is effected except the bump stops but will need these replaced and likely the bumper resprayed. Do the stops underneath the bumperettes just get replaced?

Officially, they aren't called bumperettes. That's a slang term. I don't know what the official name is.

Mine got scratched, I plasti-dipped them and they came out great.

Hey bro, is this a custom job or does someone sell the back plate? Could you describe what you did if it was a custom job? My bumperettes are dented and I just ordered a pair from suncoast. Was planning to spray them and install them but this may be a better option if I'm paying anyway.
