997.1 Carrera 4S
I'm looking at buying my first Porsche. Ive found a car that I like very much and am looking for opinions.
Car has 66,000 miles and is on the original clutch and original IMS.
One Owner with all Service Records. Owner was meticulous.
Car looks more like 16,000 miles. Tires are 80+%. Brakes are 50+%.
No Oil Leaks. Passes an Independent Inspection.
Price will likely end up in the $35,000-37,000 Range.
2007 997.1 Carrera 4S
X1 Artic Silver
DC Stone Grey Standard Leather
404 Turbo 19" Wheels
P1S Power Seat Package with Memory
XSC Porsche Crest Headrests
680 Bose Sound
810 Floor Mats Interior Color
267 Automatically Dimming Mirrors
480 Manual Transmission
1. Is this a fair price for the car?
2. Ive been told the IMS issue is a bit overblown for 2007 MY and later. Is this true?
3. I know it depends on how hard the 75 yo owner was on the car but how imminent is the clutch replacement?
4. Ive heard some earlier dual mass clutches can be an issue and expensive to replace. Is this car late enough that it's not a concern?
5. Most importantly is this a car you would consider? If not why?

997.1 IMS bearing only matters on the early 2005's. Later 997.1's have a larger, non-serviceable, but more reliable bearing. 997.2's do not have an IMS so no IMS bearing. No worries here.
When searching for your dream pcar, first figure out what options are must haves for you. Things like AWD vs RWD, sport vs base, full leather or not, cab vs coupe, color combo, etc. Some options are easy to add afterwards (PSE, sport mode). Others are not (full leather). Then when you find a car with nearly all the matches go for it. Pay for a PPI incuding a DME report. If all looks good complete the sale.
The car you are looking at seems reasonable on the surface. You say it passes an independent inspection - do you have the report? Did it include a DME overrev read out? Paint gauge readings to determine hidden body work/repairs?

Some random misfire codes they say are pretty normal.
Paint checked normal.
It was noted that the tires (Bridgestone S04) do not have Porsche Approval.

I will just say, initially I was not crazy about the stone grey interior, but over time I barely notice it, and it hides dirt better somehow better then black which constantly shows dirt and fingerprints (not that my car has any).

Sounds like a great price, and I similarly wasn't into the stone grey interior in Froggy, but everything about the car has really grown on me, and I couldn't imagine my car any other way.
Hides dirt pretty well - but mines got fingerprints and mud and all else.
Though I'm in a narrow body, bought mine with 54,000 miles, just clicked past 108,000 yesterday.

Porsche Approved Tires.... What's the consensus on this?
The Bridgestone Potenza S04 (Almost New) seem like a pretty decent tire. The only Spec difference I can find is the fronts are 91 Load Index and the car originally had 87. Could the stiffer front sidewall cause a chassis balance issue? Could this be offset be adjusting air pressure?

OP, when looking at a car some things for me are deal killers: wrecks, salvage title, poor overall appearance (translates to poor maintenance).
The DME report is actually quite good and indicates the PO babied it. No paint work, original owner, receipts, great price........why are you waiting? Remember the 4S is a wide body 911 and usually command a premium with all things being equal. This car should be in the $40,000+ range.

This sounds like a great car. I'm actually half way on a deal on a 2006 C4S with 62K miles. I'm paying $38,000 and it's not 1 owner. Yours is a better deal. Personally I would prefer higher miles with service records before a lower mileage one. This shows that the car has been driven, things have been sorted, and car was cared for. Plus, it's still averaging what would be considered low miles per year. The car is damn near the bottom of the depreciation curve and it's a 4S manual. If you like the car itself, pull the trigger. Can't go wrong at the price you're paying.
