If you look at the very first post in the thread, I linked to another thread with some discussion on the topic.
X-pipe is supposed to encourage exhaust scavenging, but word is you may lose some low end torque. A 'normal' cat pipe should avoid that. A totally catless straiaght pipe does lose low end, but substantial gains at the top end. There was a thread showing the dyno charts on that.

Did u ask Topgear if their pipes will trigger check engine lights ?
I have not seen a review say it does but better to ask the question now

Some answers to more questions:
Shipping is confirmed to be with DHL.
996 and 997 headers will be available soon.
No issues for PSE fitment.
No CELs are triggered - complete de-cat or 100 cell cats may do so, but the 200 cell should be fine.
The group buy will 'go live' once stock on the cat pipes is confirmed.

As a new Porsche 997.1 C2 owner, some dumb questions.
Is a muffler change from my OEM suggested if I go cats?
Does anyone know if the 200 cat pipes would nullify a warranty?
Would these present a smog issue here in California?
If I read the OP right, the cats will NOT come with a low end torque loss, correct?
I would interested in the cats if someone can help me out with these questions. Thanks!

The cat pipes should give an tangible increase in sound, but probably not obnoxiously so. The mufflers will still 'contain' most of the sound due to the circuitous internal routing of exhaust. If you want even more volume, then it's up to your personal preference if you want mufflers too. Many people do the 'Gundo hack' (search it and you'll see) and that adds some volume to the OE mufflers, similar to Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) but obviously wouldn't be switchable.
Unfortunately, I don't have answers to your next two questions about warranty or smog testing. However, the cat pipes will still pass UK Ministry of Transportation (MOT) testing. I don't live in California (have only visited many times!) so can't comment more.
The X-pipes are supposed to gain more higher end at the expense of some low end torque. The regular cat pipes should not lose low end torque. However, I don't have figures or anything, this comment is based on my own reading of forum posts, and some discussion with various vendors.
