Default Front Differential Seal Leak - 997.2 4S

I found a front differential seal leak when doing my seasonal tire change over. It is being covered under CPO. I did some searches and didn't see anyone else out here with that issue so I thought I'd start a new thread for future reference.

The dealer is replacing both left and right sides under warranty. I'll post the shop hours as soon as I get the work order paper work back.

I hope this helps someone in the future!

I had the same. It was identified (and then sorted out) in a pre-extended warranty inspection.

Where was it leaking? At the axle seals or somewhere else? I saw a small amount of oil on mine when I was changing the fluids but not enough to do anything about.

The bottom of the diff was covered in leaking oil, it would only be a question of time before it failed. The seals had perished.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more posts around this issue. I only found a few quasi related posts over on the turbo forums, but no DIYs.

The front differential axle seals were replaced under CPO in my '10 C4S at ~49k.

From what I understand, it is a very common issue.

You may need to remove the underbody covering as mine was only determined to be leaking when that was done...

For the record, my car was built in Feb 2010 and had done about 30,000km (in a hot country). It was pretty obvious once the underbody plastic was removed.

FWIW, my 2003 Turbo developed leaking front diff flange seals at around 112K miles. This was back in Sept. 2013.

Repair done at my local Porsche dealer service department. Labor was $720 and parts $47.26.
