Default 997.1S-Should fans keep running after car turned off?

On a few hot days I have gone into my garage 15-30 minutes after turning the car off and the fans were running. Turning the ignition on then off without starting the car turned the fans off. Is this normal?

I've noticed it, so I believe it is. It's odd, the fans come on even when the car is off and been off for 15/20 min.

It happens everywhere when the engine bay temps exceed the temp limit (temps do rise after shutdown). However, the fan won't turn on if the engine compartment lid is open.

Move to Phoenix...you see it all the time during summer. Usually I will just open the engine cover when I get into my garage as I cannot see the benefit of the 110* in my garage being used to cool the engine bay....

If the fans turn on, leave them ON. Engine temp sensors turn them on. Re the engine lid cooling fan... let it run and only when it stops you may raise the lid but not before the fan stops, or if you install an external fan extraction air out from the bottom of the engine like this:

Ditto in Dallas...T
Edit - just back from another unnecessarily long (but oh so satisfying!) errand and it's in the bat cave and the fan's a-whirring. 100 F here.

Yes, it's normal and be thankful it does it.

Just the engine bay fan? What about the front radiator cooling fans? Do you notice those running too?

Good question. The back ones make so much noise, I never noticed any noise coming from front. The next time this happens, I will pay closer attention and report back…T

There is only 1 small fan on the engine lid. There are 2 fans (1 on each side) in the front and they are known to go bad... On a very hot engine the front fans will stay on.

When you pull into the garage and before you shut engine off, cycle A/C off and then back on you can hear the front fans - pretty loud.
