Default which aftermarket headers for a 997?

Hi All. i am new to the forum.

i've had some mods done to my C2S (05) - evoms intake, evoms tune and a IPE exhaust (stock headers). Now i'm thinking i need to change the headers out too so any suggestions on what headers i should be looking at?

Should i just go for the IPE headers or something else? What will give me improved performance?

I personally wouldn't change headers if I didn't change the cats to high-flow version, such as 200's, and I'd lean towards Fabspeed.

But since you're already on EVOMs tune, I'd be focusing on products they recommend.

Cats are the main choke point. On 997.1 the least bang for the buck comes from headers (maybe no bang for the buck). But if you address the headers and cats, that makes sense.

This does not apply to the 997.2

I've got the IPE exhaust system installed (cat bypass x pipe with IPE mufflers) so the cats are taken care of. I'm wondering how much of a difference headers would make to this setup and what i should go with.

Well, since the cats aren't in play, go ahead and upgrade the headers. I'd recommend Fabspeed. I only hear great things and they are a responsive vendor on these boards, but it is probably best to have a fully matched IPE setup and go with their headers.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get in touch with IPE and i'm guessing evoms will have to retune the setup.

It would be my pleasure to get you set up with a quality set of performance headers. We've worked closely with EVOMS for many years now and I'm confident together we can help you extract the most power. Shoot me a PM or call me up and we can chat!

Hello Zenzi, and welcome to the community! I shot you over a PM. It sounds like you have a great build going on, and I would be thrilled to assist in any way I can. We do have our Sport Headers for the 997.1 on the shelf and ready to ship at your convenience

Philster, I appreciate the kind words very much! You are right around the corner from us, you should stop by for lunch and to see some of the R&D projects we have going on

I have the Fabspeed headers and haven't had any issues with them. Sound and flow are both great, and they look like automotive jewelry. I have them paired with the rest of my Fabspeed system (200 cell X-cats & valvetronic mufflers). Liked the quality so much on my 997, I bought their secondary cat bypass pipes for my Cayenne Turbo S as well. They really stand behind their products too - I believe everything they sell, except the cats have a lifetime guarantee, which is why I went with them on my 997, as the OEM PSE mufflers on my car failed internally at 30,000 miles.

I went with OEM X51 headers. They rarely come up used in the marketplace. So if you see them ****** them up right away. And I was able to sell my stock 'S' headers to the 996 crowd.

Ditto for the X51 headers. However, you need to clean them up a bit first before installing. The weld joints are sloppy.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies.

That's the thing i'm hearing too, either Fabspeed headers or the X51's. Question is would the Fabspeed headers pair well with the IPE system?

@edgy01 - could you elaborate on the weld joints being sloppy.

+1 on Petza914's suggestion on going with Fabspeed .... I popped a set of Fabspeed Sport Headers and 200-Cell HJS Cats on my 2010 C4S Cab equipped with PSE, and the results are FANTASTIC. Here's a clip from last weekend with PSE "Off" until abut 24s, then on for the rest of the clip. The enhanced exhaust note and power are both awesome results of this upgrade from stock. As an additional kicker, I've not thrown any CEL light and I passed the Illinois Emissions Test last weekend

Porsche 997.2 C4S PSE Exhaust with Fabspeed Sport Headers & 200-Cell HJS Cats - YouTube
Your video is fantastic, and am thrilled to hear you are enjoying them s much as we do! My personal favorite sound I have ever experienced from a 911 was a client of mine's 2011 GTS with our Sport Headers, Center Muffler Bypass X-Pipe, and factory PSE mufflers. Comfortable yet throaty with valves closed, and with valves open a high-pitched, exotic wail to redline that gives you goosebumps and a smile that makes your face hurt. Can't help but look for the nearest tunnel or get as close to the concrete divider on the highway as you can haha.

One day I will add a 997.2 C2S with PSE to my Porsche stable and repeat the performance, and i'm jealous you are a few steps ahead of me

Zenzi my apologies the PM didn't make it to you, I just resent it now.

Our Sport Headers are a bolt-in replacement for factory headers, and therefore will work splendidly with any system that bolts up to your factory headers. I might add we are located just outside of Philadelphia, and I sit at a desk about 100ft from where I can walk back and shake the hands of our enthusiastic fabricators and R&D team that come to work every day to design and make the products we offer to maximize your driving experience. Take comfort in knowing that you are purchasing from us directly, and that we have been specializing in Porsche performance for over 20 years at this point. Fabspeed was built from the ground up, starting from the garage of a true petrolhead like me and you that just wanted his car to sound better and go faster haha. The fact we are local also means our customer service is top notch and accomplished in a timely manner, not that we ever expect you need it

I look forward to working with yourself, and any others that may be interested in tapping into their cars true potential. Keep the passion alive!
