What should cost be for clutch and IMS for 997 Base

Just stating the obvious - IMS bearing replacement with a clutch change is only an option for early 2005's that have the smaller bearing. Late 2005 through 2008 have the larger non-replaceable but more reliable bearing that can only be changed by tearing down the engine.

I did not know that. I checked the door sticker. Looks like 9/04. Not sure this should make me happy or sad. Since some newer cars still fail I guess knowing mine is done will be some comfort.

Newer/bigger IMSB? You're good. Move on.
I've seen some mentions of the aftermarket upgrades failing (based on lots o' reading), but haven't seen anything about a newer Porsche one from 2006+ failing.

Read this before you assume you're good to go regarding your IMS. www.imsretrofit.com Sometime in 2006 Porsche moved to the larger non-serviceable bearing. If you have a MY 2005 you should still be able to get the upgraded bearing.

I still maintain that the flames of IMS failure are fanned mainly by the manufs. of the fix and the prob is far less egregious than some think but of course I'm going to replace it. I guess LN Engineering is the one to go with. One of the fanners but I think they have good products. Opinions on this are welcome of course.

From your 9/04 production date it looks like you do have the replaceable smaller IMSB that was part of the class action lawsuit. The lawsuit covered 911 production dates from May 4, 2001 through Feb 20, 2005. I'd do more research on your VIN number to confirm.
