Failed smog due to high zinc (ZPPD) oil?
Joe Gibbs DT40 5w-40 sounds like the way to go in my 997.1. Of course the concern is catalytic converter damage. What has your experience been with passing smog in CA--or more importantly, failing smog after using high ZPPD oils?

Non issue. And DT40 is not any higher in ZInc and Phosphorus than Mobil 1. Maybe 100 ppm.

It's a Porsche approved A40 oil, correct...doubt very much it would be on the list if it caused premature cat failure. Find something else to be concerned about...like water.

Burning Brakes
They no longer use the tail-pipe sniffer in California, so that shouldn't be an issue.
If your car is burning so much oil that it causes cat failure then you have a more serious problem than just failing a smog check.
