Default Brake hubs rusted. Ideas?

It sucks to have nice wheels, cleaned and waxed, only to be minimized by rusty hubs showing from almost every angle.

Steel wool then clear high-temp paint is my idea. I've seen where some folks have used silver paint, but I'd be happy with the natural look as long as it wasn't rusty.

Anybody here tackled this problem?

I've used black high temp paint on other cars in the past. It hides any brake dust real well.

The last time I changed rotors on my old 996 I painted the rotor hats with a hi temp header paint in primer grey before I put them on the axles. The over spray came off after I drove around a little. With them on the car it will be a little harder.....just mask your calipers and anything else you don't want to paint. The next time I do this I'll look for some zinc enriched spray primer like this http://www.hubindustrial.com/chemica...5-017-015.html

High temp paint on the hats is really the only way they will look like new.

Next time spring for PCCBs. The 'hats' are aluminum.

Also for next time, you can get coated rotors (they are dipped so they are coated inside and out). The ones with quality coatings hold up under heat. The coasting only wears off where the pads directly contact.

Zimmerman is one possibility. Or if it really bothers you, you can spring for new rotors early. It bothers me too, but I'm too cheap to spring for them so early.

+1 - I used Zimmerman rotors (an OEM supplier) when I did my brakes and there was a note in the box warning against using brake cleaning solvents on the rotors because it would wash off that coating.

I stripped my rotor hubs down to the machined surface and then clearcoated the surface with a quality clear spray paint. Holding up great and the bare machined surface looks great with the brake disc and red calipers.
