Default Polished exhaust tips

Removed my exhaust tips and went at them with citrus cleaner and 0000 steel wool, they came out great! Finished them off with Never Dull.

Before and after picture attached!

Great idea. How do you get them off?

Loosen the one bolt holding them on and wiggle them off (it takes a bit of force). Before removing, take measurements of the height of each tip to help get them back to their original position during re-installation.

I like dirty tips

I think it adds characters and shows the car is being used the way it was designed .

I recently bought a set of tips that had been spray painted, and in researching ways to remove the paint, a common notion I found was to avoid using steel wool--it leaves tiny steel particles embedded in the surface, which then rust. For whatever that's worth...

I bailed and am having the tips media blasted and ceramic coated in silver.

Too bad you're in Iowa. If in Northern Cal, I would have offered you a nice bottle of booze to do mine. Yes I'm lazy. Plus it's my wife's car.

It took a bit longer than I thought it was going to, you would need to offer up a pretty nice bottle!!

I haven't heard of the tiny steel particle theory. I would guess most of these particles are removed when doing the final polish with the Never Dull??

Post a picture of your ceramic coated tips when you get them, I would be interested to see how they come out!

Having built some furniture, I know rusting steel wool particles can cause a problem in light colored wood. But wood is a fairly porous material that will capture the fragmented particles. I've never had this problem on steel. After polishing, clean fully.
