Just read this (http://jalopnik.com/porsche-991-911s-ranked-1649537808) interesting post on Jalopnik this morning ranking 991 generation Porsche 911's and it got me thinking, how would I rank the 997 models? Here are my rankings:
9) Any 997 Cabrio
8) 997 Speedster
7) 997 Carrera/Carrera S
6) 997 Carrera 4/4S

Thoughts? I think this will lead to some interesting discussion...

Beden1 while I can appreciate open air driving (I have a Targa), personally I don't like the cabrio model's because to me the lines of the car aren't as clean with the top up. That being said cabrio's do look great with the top down. As for the AWD models, I'm a huge fan of the wide body shape. Just my two cents though...

I prefer the old style removable Targa top. The new 991 Targa moves up 2 places on my list. I'm not a Cab guy at all. I probably wouldn't own the speedster either but it is placed where it is for the Sport Classic.

I wouldn't lump a C2 with a C2S, or a C4 with a C4S, etc.
Also I would put the 2wd versions above most of the 4wd versions. I suppose if you need a crutch and all that extra weight...not that there is anything wrong with that...wide body not withstanding.

from a looks standpoint?? silly idea in the first place. and no, I wouldn't place a Carrera 4 before a Carrera S with its oval exhaust tips and faded black calipers but to each their own

My opinion, slightly biased, probably a bit left field compared to others, and based purely on aesthetics:
9) Any 997 Cabrio / 997 Speedster
8) 997 Targa/Targa 4S
7) 997 Carrera 2 / Carrera 4
6) 997 GT2/GT2 RS / GT3 RS
5) 997 Sport Classic
4) 997 Turbo/Turbo S coupes
3) 997 Carrera 2S/4S
2) 997 GTS coupe
1A) 997 GT3 (notably, NOT the regular RS)
1) GT3RS 4.0
My previous car was an S2000. I love convertibles, but really don't like 911 convertibles of any generation. I think convertibles look best as two seaters, not so much four seaters, and the lines of the 997 cabrio don't appeal to me at all. I love the convertible driving experience, don't get me wrong, but generally only when I'm by myself with no traffic around. There always seemed to be idiotic/envious comments from other drivers when I was driving around top down, not to mention driving stupidity from other cars, especially rednecks in big diesel pickup trucks. All of that led me to get a coupe 997.
From my list, it's apparent that I like the cleaner coupe lines, and with the exception of the RS4.0 and regular GT3s, wingless cars especially.
Note on the 991 Targa - agree it looks very hot, but I hope that in a few years, it doesn't look like it's trying to hard at the retro look.

If I use rarity, desirability, unique features and realistic ability to live with as a frequent driver (while factoring in if your opting for a performance model, you'll go with something really suited for track days), here's my ranking;
9) 997 Speedster
8) 997 Targa 4
7) 997 Carrera 4S
6) 997 Targa 4S
5) 997 GTS (Coupe)
4) 997 Turbo (Cabrio)
3) 997 Turbo S (Coupe)
2) 997 GT2
1) 997 GT3
RS models are going to/from the track and are purpose specific so we'll leave them up here...😎
9) 997 Speedster
8) 997 Targa 4
7) 997 Carrera 4S
6) 997 Targa 4S
5) 997 GTS (Coupe)
4) 997 Turbo (Cabrio)
3) 997 Turbo S (Coupe)
2) 997 GT2
