Opinions
Just looking for some opinions on which direction I should possibly go. I've been looking at a couple 2009 911's. Here are the basics:
1) Base Carrera, 15k miles, no warranty, fabspeed exhaust and intake. PDK...White/grey...asking 53k
2) Carrera S; 18k miles, CPO, PDK, Sport chrono...white/black..asking 61k
I like that the second one is an "S" and has a CPO but don't like that it's 7k more. Plus I think there is more water in the base model price, so the gap is probably bigger then 7k.
I'm coming from a 2007 Cayman S that I purchased with a CPO that expires at the end of the month. The CPO save my butt with a new engine a couple months ago after a cracked cylinder. So I know the value of having the warranty. However, this is a 9A1 engine as opposed to my M97 and it's known issues that plague that model. Just wondering your opinions on whether the S and CPO is worth $7-10k premium upfront.
Thanks

Get the S! You won't regret it.

It's totally worth the 7k more, no contest.
Base price difference between and S and non S is more then that. You get - a larger engine, more horsepower, larger brakes and active suspension management. For me, worth every bit of the 7k and more.
I'm also not sure of your location but if you are in a smog state you won't be passing smog checks with the fabspeed intake. There is value in having an unmolested vehicle. I paid a bit extra to buy a pristine and unmolested car versus one that had 20k worth of mods and was cheaper on the asking side.
Edit: Just as an aside as I learned this rather quickly into my search and then after looking at rennlist for months and reading posts - don't be under the assumption that the non S car will have equivalent performance to the S car because of the fabspeed parts. I can't remember the exact horsepower claims on those parts but I wouldn't be surprised if they claim around 40 horsepower combined for those two items. You won't get anywhere close to that. The car with 20k worth of modifications had no appreciable performance gains.

I'd go with the S myself but honestly that's not a bad price on the non-S and the S seems priced right too. Granted, I was look at < '09's and S models were 8-10K more regardless of the CPO, that alone is like $3500.
If you can swing the S, do it as it seems the 'better buy.'

I'll bet that base Carrera was a Launch edition model. No Sport Chrono on those. Plus I'm not a fan of the rather bland gray interior.
Definitely get the S with the CPO. More toys for not much more money. You'll be happier with it for longer too, I bet.

If you want the S than the $7k will be a drop in the bucket compared to the loss you'll take a year from now when you try to get into an S after all.
$5k for the S
$2k for the CPO.
So it.

Well put! 5k for an S upgrade,That is a 15k upgrade for new?CPO even with upgraded engine with your experience wouldn't you sleep better with it?After all the engine isn't the only thing covered, and Black over Grey interior every time.Consider resale,I'm likely in the minority, but would not even consider grey interior unless it was just too well priced to turn down.
Whatever you decide though as good as the Cayman is I'm sure you'll be stoked with the upgrade.

Get the Non S save 10 grand, Put in your own suspension. Brake diameter on S and non S are the same.
The only way you can tell you have any extra 40 hp with the S is at full throttle and a stopwatch. I have driven both, no discernible difference on the street. Do you need the extra weight, complexity of the S components. Do you like the dash wart on the S (even most S owners do not like it.)
You already have Fabspeed exhaust on the non S, there is $800 bonus.
What wheels does the base have, 19's? If you are embarrassed by the lowly Carrera script on the tail, then take it off. The only people you will be impressing with an S are the guys above. All your friends and neighbors won't know the difference.

Who cares about impressing your friends and neighbors or the guys above (or below). I test drove Base and S models back-to-back before buying (981s and 997s) and the S difference is noticeable, at least it was to me: Never driven a P-Car before.
