Arrow Who Thinks Their 997 is a Unicorn (1 of 1)??

Hey everyone,

I was just sitting here contemplating the idea that my car could in fact be a one off build setup!

I am not sure whether or not it is, but I do think that it is at least limited. With my modifications like OEM X51 setup, I am almost sure it would be, but since it’s not on the window sticker, it doesn’t count! Obviously if that were the case there would be tons of so called unicorns running around.

Anyways, I am well aware that Arctic Silver is very common and that when the 997 came out, they liked to pair it with Cocoa as per the Sales Brochure at the time. What I do find interesting, however, is that my car was built with some rare or "Exclusive Options" such as –

- PCCB’s, Sport Shifter, Sport Wheel in Leather, A/B Pillars in Leather and the Roof Liner in Leather plus the Instrument Surround in leather. Below I have added my build sheet. Do you guys think there’s a chance that my build has a twin somewhere? If so, does anyone know of the car? That would be crazy to find…

My Porsche was built with the following specs:

BASE Carrera S Coupe $81,400
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic 825.00
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic Top 0.00
RA Special Leather Cocoa 3,795.00
C02 US Standard Emissions 0.00
342 Heated Front Seats 480.00
680 Bose High End Sound Package 1,390
640 Sport Chrono Package Plus 920.00
M6C Cocoa Floor Mats 115.00
P01L Adaptive Sport Seats Leather Interior 2,695.00
450 Ceramic Composite Brakes – PCCB 8,150.00
670 Navigation for PCM 2,070.00
XCZ Sport Shifter 765.00
460 Sport Steering Wheel Leather 490.00
XMA A/B Pillar/ Roof Liner Leather 1,180.00
XNG Instrument Surround Leather 260.00

Total With Options $104,535.00

DSTCHG Destination Charge 795.00

Total Charges 795.00

Total Order $105,330.00

***Please share your build sheets as well! Let’s see how many Unicorns we have here on the board!

I have a rare car also, it's build sheet is similar to yours but without the cocoa leather. Came out to just over 103k in 2005.

A Carrera with PCCB alone is quite rare. It's nice having the special options, and no i've never seen another on the street so I feel special

Just do the math.......with the number of options to choose from in the Porsche catalog, it's highly unlikely that two cars were ever built that are identical. You have a 911, not a unicorn.

Awesome!! Care to share the build sheet? I take it from your MSRP and comment that you have PCCB's? Is your 911 a Launch Edition?

Most Carreras with PCCB's are. Awesome car btw!

Well there are two different types of 911's.

1. Lease Spec / Basic Inventory
2. Customer ordered cars

Since dealer's will order most inventory to be compatible with current leases being offered, it is found that most new cars are optioned to be VERY similar if not the same. Obviously most dealers order their cars so that they are as easy to sell as possible and appeal to the masses, not the enthusiasts.

At the dealer here in South FL for example, we get light colors because of heat, and tons of convertibles. You'll see that the vast majority of dealer stock cars here are White/Beige Cabs with PDK. Options don't jump out much past items like Navigation.

There were enough 997's built that MANY people drive identical cars. Is your Platinum Silver GTS a unicorn? It's an awesome car either way, my favorite silver and 911 iteration in fact. Just wondering...

It is indeed a launch edition here, and yes PCCB's standard and from what I understand it only came in black. I read there were 337 launch editions built.

Interested to see the leather headliner you have, never seen that option. Mine came with an alacantara headliner...

Mine is definitely not a unicorn, but I know for a fact it is #297 of 1911 produced.

Yes, indeed. Lets just guestimate from approximately 203 options to chose from (ranging from body type to seat material to electronic log book) and from those options being able to pick 84 (e.g., you can't pick two exterior colors or carbon fiber wheel versus leather trimmed versus Alcantara), and using the formula n!/((n-r)! x (r!)), you get:

3.5183257 x 10^58 possible combinations.

(And Porsche required combinations might change this number but really, in this instance, do we really care if the true combinations are 10^58 or 10^24!)

I'd call a 911 a fingerprint (as in we all have one and they are slightly different) and not a Unicorn.

Cool thread. I once owned a 997 C2S that i thought was pretty special....or a unicorn as you say. The car was:

2006
Guards Red over black FULL leather
OEM aerokit
OEM gloss black "lobster fork" wheels w/colored crests
Sports Chrono
PASM
6 speed w/oem short shift
Carbon Fiber Multi Function steering wheel
Carbon Fiber shifter/ebrake
Carbon Fiber dash/trim
18 way adjustable Sport Seats
Red Seat Belts

I bought the car used with 19k miles on it. I was in love with that car and to this day havent seen another like it w those EXACT options from the factory. Makes me wonder if it was a 1 of 1......

I don't think my car is unique and I really don't car one way or another. The only important thing about my car is.... it's mine!

I just joined the 997 club yesterday. My new 997 TT cabriolet is Macadamia Brown Metallic with a cocoa brown top. I don't think it's a unicorn because it looks identical to the one pictured in the 2008 brochure. That being said, I've never seen one like it before.

Crazy math skills eh? Anyway, I think "fingerprint" is a cool way of referring to it.

After he drove it for awhile it was auctioned for more than $200K then he bought a vintage 68 911 for more than $150K.
