Default "Headlight beam adjustment fault"

09 997.2S 25k miles.

Got this msg yesterday, now its there everytime I start the car. I dont have dual xenon headlights so I assume I dont have auto leveling headlights. I have never seen my lights dip since buying the car last yr.

car has CPO but before I face the pain of going to the dealer, I want to try and trouble shoot it a bit.

an pointers?

I don't mean to hijack your thread but i also have the same message on my car. It happened right after i lowered the car. However, the auto adjustment still works so i dont think the sensor(s) is bad. The lights still adjust themselves when i start the car and seem level. Not sure if there is a way to reset?

OP. You have CPO, i would just go to the dealer and save yourself the headache. As for me, i have to try and toubleshoot myself.

Made and appt for wed. Will update the thread when more info becomes avail. As of now, the service advisor confirm its strange for this error to come up on a non dual xenon car.

Juan, do you have dual xenon?

997.2 not in the US? All US cars came with bi-xenons, and the related leveling system.
Not sure if the halogens were just the conventional old-type mechanical adjusters by hand.

You can force the headlights to run an auto-level cycle. With the key off, turn the headlight switch all the way on, then cycle the key to the auxiliary position (the one before the car starts that lights up all the warning lights). The headlights will drop down and then lift up and auto-level. My 997.1 lights only do this when I run the test, not each time I turn them on.

FWIW I have a 997.1 with single xenons and my headlights auto adjust every time I turn them on.

Just tried it and they did dip and came back up. all seemed well but the error still comes up. I never saw them dip in a year of ownership... strange.

I'm making an educated guess here...

I think all xenon headlights have the auto-leveling mechanism. Because of the intense and precisely controlled beam pattern of these light types, the fog lights were no longer needed, and the beam system has a leveling system that makes sure the light is properly aimed (that the mechanical cutoff system is working right) whenever the headlights are turned on.

The dual beam sample, is the 'adaptive' headlight system, I believe, which turns left and right. I've got that system on my car and the dual-lamp look is what I have.

You are correct. The "adaptive" lights you refer to are PDLS, or Porsche Dynamic Light System. Got to love all the Porsche acronyms.

Possible one of the plastic brackets for one of the sensors (one front, one rear) was broken while lowering the car. Lights would still self adjust on start up, but error would appear due to lack of travel from sensor. Just an educated guess...

I now see the issue.. I see some bracket hanging down by the rear drivers side wheel... I am pretty sure thats it. Wonder is CPO will cover this. We shall find out tomorrow.

Thanks Ptech!!
