C2S vs C24S?
Hey Guys,
Am considering a C24S as I have found one that has the options I want but it is AWD and I'm curious what you AWD fans think of your system. This particular car is a 2010 and it also has PASM - I do not live in a northern climate but feel that Porsche thinks that the AWD system offers another level of safety to the car.
I've heard that the new AWD system is a lot more transparent than past AWDs in older models and that it may just be a really good thing to have especially if one plans to take long trips in the car all over the USA, like I do. So how do you 4S owners like your AWD and would you have it over a 2 WD model? If you have it would you get it again? Also does it add another level of maintenance issues - any concerns or warnings along that line?
Thanks everyone, I do appreciate your time and feedback.

I've had both in the 997.2 and liked both. choose the one that has the options you want. i don't see any significant increase in maintenance costs with the awd . I'm in NC and on't need awd but this car had the options I wanted and I wanted the C4s for no other reason than i like the wider body.

I like the wide body of the 4s and there is no question it will add to stability and safety, particularly at higher speeds. If you are going to drive it hard and potentially track it, the 2s is going to give you a bit more fun with the back end being a touch more squirrelly. I don't track or drive mine too hard and for road trips the 4s is still fun. And there are those sexy hips in the side mirrors as well!

I've been very happy with my c4s and I would buy it again. I am in Charlotte N.C. so we have a very similar climate. I find the front end to be a little heavier than the C2S on turn in but the rear feels more planted. If you occasionally try to get the rear to step sideways for fun, you might prefer the C2S, its easier, otherwise the C4S is equally sporty. Visually the wider body was appealing to me. Increased maintenance costs are negligible.

imho get the one with the options you want.
the c4s is better looking on the outside, and i have never heard of porsche awd systems causing any issues; the c2s is the simple rwd classic sports car imo.

4s will be more stable in the rain and snow. But that comes with more weight. I prefer the traditional lightweight pendulum feel of a rear wheel drive 911 but they make both for a reason.

I just traded a C4S for a GTS, been driving the C4S for over 7 years, and the first impression I got from the GTS at high speed was that it felt lighter on the front end. Of course now, after a longer period to adapt, I don't feel that anymore. It must be the extra weight on the front end of the C4S.
These machines are just amazing, I'm looking at 10 years apart in engineering advancement between my 02 C4S and 12 GTS ... the 02 handled just as well, if not just a tad better!

Thanks guys, this is great feed back. I really appreciate the info.
Cosmos - you're reply is great - and you know that by now the AWD system is improved so it's going to feel good. Wish I could go to a GTS! That's a great car you have and a great color too.
Perk10 - you have the color combo I'm really after! I think the cocoa interior is really nice - especially in full leather. Do you have PASM too?

I purchased my C4S primarily because of the wide hips, the options I wanted and a desire to travel in just about any conditions Mother Nature could throw at me. To date, because of the drought in CA, I've had very little opportunity to experience inclement weather, however I've come to appreciate the incredible sure-footedness of the AWD system...and oh those hips!
Good luck with your purchase adventure!

I bought my c4s cab in jan 2013. The decision was based on the color combo and the overall options in the car. My search originally started looking at a 2006 s model. From reading this forum I decided that I wanted a 997.2.
I do like the wider hips and am happy with my purchase.
Good luck with your search and buy the car you want.
I spent more than my original budget I had planned but do plan on getting back more money when the day comes and I sell the car.

I think it depends on the type of driver you are and how much you feel from a car. Many people feel more secure with AWD though I have found if you do loose it RWD cars are easier (at least for me) to pull back in. I have owned 40 Porsche's and the Cayenne TT was AWD and my Panamera 4S is, all of the others were either RWD or converted to RWD. I am not a fan of AWD sports cars even my 04 Gallardo was converted to RWD long before Lamborghini decided to offer it.
