GTS...coupe of convertable?
I've decided the 997 GTS will be the next car and it might be another year or so and I am okay with that. (waiting for the prices to come down a little) I will put approximately 3,000 miles a year on it, just like the '05 997, and participate in a couple DE events at Sebring each year.
I have never owned a convertible but really like the lines of the car with the top down. The thought of 'open motoring' especially with the exhaust and engine notes so close behind me compel me to consider this. I live in Tampa, FL and for much of the summer the top would certainly be up, the exceptions being late night and early morning. Winter would be a different story with plenty of opportunities to put the top down.
My question you members with convertibles is this: How often do you have the top down and would you purchase a convertible again?

Beginning in late April until mid-October, top is down every chance I get. And no I would not buy a cab again simply because I prefer the lines of the coupe. I bought the cab because I'd never owned one before and wanted the experience.

I too prefer the lines of the cab but think we are definitely in the minority on that.
As your neighbor down the road, I will say that I have the top down almost every time I use the car (weekends and occasionally during the week). Mornings and evening are a sure thing. Mid day during the summer is tough even with vented seats (which are a MUST).
Just got back from a loop around town this evening enjoying the sounds and perfect temps.
For me a cab was a must but I was coming from 2 previous Boxsters and just prefer something different as its not a daily. It can get hot in there if driven every day.

A cab increases your options to enjoy the car. Other than a little weight, maybe a bit less rigidity, the 911 cab is awesome. With the top up, it is quiet and no leak issues, with the top down, the sound and wind in your hair (or not if you raise the deflector and windows) is simply fantastic. Either way, you can't go wrong w a GTS. GL

I have owned cabs for 20+ years. Mid summer bright sun=top up, otherwise I enjoy the top down. I might add, I keep a good sunscreen in the car for sunny top down days. I know there are the naysayers who will comment that that is too much work. My reply is you should probably wear sunscreen every day if you go outside at all, even if you don't drive a cab. If it gets a little warm run the a/c (you would if you had a coupe). So a cab is always on my must have.

I have a cab and wouldn't ever go back to a coupe, although I do like the clean lines of a coupe. One's entire visual perspective while driving a cab is entirely different than when driving a coupe -- more open, expansive and panoramic. And that doesn't touch on the delight of hearing that exhaust (Fister in my case) as you open it up on the highway. Driving the Pacific Coast Highway in Big Sur in a 911 cab with the top down should be on everyone's bucket list. I'm lucky enough to have crossed it off many times.

Definitely a coupe for the smooth lines and rigidity.

I've owned cabs for the last 25ish years. I considered a coupe when I bought my GTS, but ultimately went with a cab. The sound really is intoxicating. Yes, I'd buy another cab. I drive with the top down as much as possible... about 6 mths a year in Atlanta... plus a random day in the winter as well as mornings/evenings in the summer.
