Use 997.2: Extended Warranty or Not?

Use 997.2: Extended Warranty or Not?
Buying my first Porsche, a 2011 C2 with just 13k miles, and just about literally every option that Porsche offered that year. Good deal. Dealer says that the factory warranty expires in March 2015, and that adding a 48 month/48k mile extended warranty will add another $50/month to my payment.
I'm 44 years old and not 17, so I'm not going to rag on this thing. I will enjoy it but not race it, not do anything crazy. I will drive it roughly 11k/year as a daily driver. It will be in a garage at my house, and under the hot Texan sun while I'm at the office. I will faithfully execute the annual maintenance, which is not covered anyway.
So is it worth it? At $50 * 60 months (on the note), I would essentially be warding against any major repairs costing >$3000 for the next 48k miles.

Get a PPI (PRE-Purchase inspection) which will be about $200 - $250.
I am guessing that it is not a Porsche dealer you are buying from? Manual transmission or PDK? Edit: just saw your 2nd post.
One of the Members recently had his PDK transmission replaced, under warranty, which would have been about $12K. While this was an extremely rare occurrence, one never knows.

I debated this recently too, especially after the aforementioned PDK failure! I went with a Platinum by Fidelity. It cost $4300 for 3 years/36k more miles. My car was out of warranty and had right at 40k on it when I purchased the warranty (through my local P dealer). I bought the car as 2nd owner with 31k miles. Well maintained by an older (than me) gentleman. Last week the PCM for Nav locked up followed by an uncontrollable cycling off and then on every 10-12 seconds, and repeat! The dealer got approval yesterday to replace it (will be fixed Friday) at a cost of $3-4k. My warranty will almost pay for itself. I would recommend the $50/mo! I am paying $210 for 18 months w zero interest after a 10% deposit. I do have a $250 deductible for each claim too. Good luck w your decision. Enjoy the car, it is an awesome ride. There is no substitute!

When stuff breaks on a Porsche it's usually expensive! I would definitely recommend the warranty for peace of mind. This is exactly why I am restricting my search to CPO cars.

FYI...I just passed 94000 miles on my 2010 C4S and still on original clutch!

I am in a similar situation. My C4S was out of warranty before I purchased it. I did not acquire it from a Porsche dealership so CPO was not available. My local Porsche dealer has a few options. I am most interested in a 4yr/48K mile power train warranty for $2900 (bumper to bumper would be $1k more). My car had 16K miles on it when I bought it and 17K now. I should probably just go ahead and grab it for peace of mind. They are even offering 18mo financing on the plan with no interest.

Man, costs from the local dealer here are CRAZY compared to what is quoted in this thread. I was told $8,000 for a "comprehensive" 3 years and 36,000 miles as long as the car is under 40k on the clock when signed up. Nuts!

I also vote for the warranty for $50 a month ($3k). Just make sure its an exclusionary warranty and from a reputable company.
