Default Rear Fender Protection

My 2011 4S does not have the plastic covering in front of the rear fenders. My car came from the factory with lower side graphics that read " Carrera 4S". The graphics appear to be made of vinyl. The graphics extend into the rear fender area but leave a lot of paint exposed. I assume the graphics are why my car does not have the clear plastic protectant. Can I add an aftermarket clear plastic that would extend over part of the graphics?

For protecting the graphics, you can apply 3m clear bra or whatever the other ones are. Also instead of using stone guards, for I would recommend using custom cut clear bra to cover the entirety of the area.

The other thing you're looking for is called stone guards. My issue with the factory stone guards is that not only do they yellow quickly, but they pick up dirt around the side edges which is very noticeable and a hassle to clean.

If you are looking for temporary solution for track days, PM me.

you can buy the porsche guard from the dealer, they look a little bit thick and tinted to me, or you can buy aftermarket guard from any clear film installer, they can be thinner if you want and they should look more clear. they cut them by computer pattern. if you use thin ones you should be able to put them in the normal place, right over your lettering and probibly not see them that much. if you do a good job

I have the side decals too and the factory stone guards were overlaid on top of them. The problem is that the Porsche stone guards are too thick to seal around the decals, so dirt gets behind the film. As PKF said, they also yellow quickly and collect dirt around the edges which is almost impossible to remove. I had custom stone guards cut from clear bra material and had the decals installed over the stone guards. This works really well, but requires you to buy new decals. Given that the clear bra material is thinner than the Porsche material, they will probably fit over the decals well enough not to have the dirt ingress problem.

In a nutshell, don't use the Porsche stone guards, get them custom cut from clear bra.

Yes, you certainly can have paint protection film applied over vinyl. As n1gels mentioned, have it custom cut to your needs, but make sure your installer is very experienced with custom work as you would not want razor cuts in your paint.
