Default Potential purchase - advices appreciated

Hi all,

I posted here a few months ago regarding in search for a 911. At the time I was debating between the 996 turbo or a 997.1. Now I have stretched my budget a little, and I'm looking to get into a 997.2 base. My rationale is if I get a CPO 997.1, I might still be looking to sell after the 2 year warranty is up, but if I get the gen 2 I can keep it for a good while (or at least sell/trade in when I want, not when I "need" to)

Anyway, there's a few cars that are currently within my budget, but I'm having trouble deciding. My only must have options would be: Coupe and a manual. My question would be: Would you guys buy a higher mileage CPO car, or a low mileage non CPO? Here's the specs:

1. Non CPO. 2009 base. turbo wheels (which I do like). Grey on Grey. 28k miles. Very close to where I live (Atlanta) Non Porsche dealer
2. CPO, 2010 base. 19 inch carerra classic (hope I got this right), Black with beige interior, 51k miles. Far away in CA. Circle Porsche

Personally, I prefer grey exterior over black, although black won't be a deal breaker. They are both priced similarly at around $53k. I talked to the dealer close to me and they are pretty firm on price. Haven't contacted the one in CA yet, will do so today. My biggest concern is the mileage. What do you guys think? Is 51k too much, especially for a 2010? I've read the 997.2 reliability thread, and it seems although no major engine issues, minor stuff could pop up, and would be expensive to fix. I would like to drive the car regularly, so I'll probably put about 10k on it per year.

What do you guys think? Thanks.

It is tough. Option list the same? I know the 10 has a little more value because of age but mileage detracts from that in my opinion You will likely have two to three years of driving before you get to 53k in the 09. I like cpo but it isnt a must. I lean to the 09. But even then I am on the fence.

i'd go 2010 ... don't be afraid of miles on the car, they're good for it; i'd rather have a driver than a garage queen - probably healthier car. love the sand interiors. CPO will help you sleep, too. both nice choices tho'

I would choose options over mileage. If grey is what you want, don't settle for black. Actually, I am already tired of my black 997. I haven't wax or polish my silver MB for over three years and it's still shines with no visible swirls. I wax and polish my black 997 twice a year and it never looks perfect. I'm the type of guy who prefers spending all Sunday driving and not waxing and polishing.

Thanks for all who replied. Would you guys think purchasing an extended warranty for a non CPO gen 2 car is necessary if it passes the PPI? Or would you think it's better to keep the approx $3k in pocket and save it aside myself? Thanks!

I like a little peace of mind myself, but it depends on you and your situation. If things go wrong you can chew up 3 k pretty easy. But I know there are those who never used their warranties. You are right not having to worry about IMS related stuff, but there could be other issues arise. (Not a thing with mine yet,09 11k).

my 997.1 wasn't CPO & i opted out of the $4k extended warranty, kinda wish i hadn't. little things can cost a lot. hasn't been a year & have put $2500 into repairs - tiptronic valve body issue which the dealer actually paid half of, thank goodness.

I was in your situation. I ended up getting the car with the color and options I wanted. I bought a 2010 with 32k miles. Reason being is the dealer had spent $4k in servicing the car - brakes, oil, tires, etc. I bought the Costco warranty b/c it covers wear n tear. TPMS is covered n will go out n that's $1,200 in my neck of the woods. 2010 electronic r better vs 2009...that was an added bonus.

2010 electronics better than 2009? How so? I thought they all received the updated PCM, has blutooth, AUX, etc that were missing on the 997.1s. They only different I know between a 09 and 10 is the updated steering wheel.

I recalled there being some differences, perhaps others can chime in. When I was looking at 09's, some were out of warranty. Thus, I would have had to pay for the updates. Also, PDK software was an issue which the dealer said we're addressed in 2010.
