Default PASM - Help me understand how it works.

I am trying to understand PASM in my 2009, manual, C2S coupe. Any good links that describe what is actually going on? For example, is the dampening infinity variable like the Cadillac developed ferro-fluid shocks, or is it a binary valve system? What else is the PASM doing in my manual, 2009 car? I noticed at slow speeds, I can't tell the difference even on very bumpy, gravel roads. At higher speeds, it is fantastic... I really would like to understand it better.

From the manual:

PASM makes two running-gear setups available to
the driver: “Normal” and “Sport”.
The selection is made via a button on the center
console. In Normal mode the running gear is in a comfortable
setup. Sport mode offers very sporty shock absorber
tuning. The variable suspension system selects the appropriate
damping level for each wheel according to
the situation and driving conditions.
Example: If the vehicle is driven in a very sporty manner in
Normal mode, PASM automatically adapts the
shock-absorber behavior to the driving situation
accordingly.

Peace

I can't drive with PASM on...I get nauseous. The car is very bumpy (granted NY/NJ roads are terrible). I must be getting old.

I have the 997.1 PASM and its pretty rough on California's public roads. The 997.2 PASM update is supposed to be improved in its ability to feel the road conditions and adapt. My understanding isn't has its not a metallic fluid. It's several chambers inside the shock that open and close to restrict the flow of fluid.

PASM varies the strut damping rates continuously, depending on sensor inputs to the damping controller. Over rough roads, the damping rates are softened for greater ride comfort. In the PASM "normal" setting, the range of damping rates are generally lower than in the "sport" setting, but there is some overlap between the two settings as this figure shows:

The lower end of the "sport" damping range is as soft as the upper end of the "normal" damping range.

My wife likes my car when in "normal". But in "sport" PASM, "it's fun...if you enjoy suffering pelvic fractures".

....stiffer, sort of abusive. Awesome.

I found this from Porsche's snarled website, it is from an issue of Christophorus:
