OK, you guys are going to make me get under my car and make SURE I don't have a cracked support band as well!

My Tubi exhaust started failing and had these symptoms. Within a week in went from what you describe to a full blown embarrassing rattle. Metal cracked 70% around the circumference of the exhaust pipe outlet from the Tubi. Cracks also in the weld. Over on 6 Speed I found some posts relating to Tubi failures. If it wasn't for those posts it would have been harder to find the issues. Cracks even harder to spot with the exhaust on the car and before cleaning up to weld/re-enforce.

I'd check all the exhaust components as others have said.

That Fister/Gundo hack is sounding better all the time. Pun intended.

Can't believe it. Welded that one today and that fixed most of it but there is still some noise at about 2,600-3,000 rpm with some load.
Now it sounds like it's coming from the right side.

Back under the car again ... @##$#%%#

Buy American. AWE comes to mind. This Tubi issue is unforgivable at the price imo, despite what the distributor would like you to think.

I used to repair aircraft bleed air pressure manifolds while in the Air force. You'd not find the small leaks until you've repaired the big ones.

In your case, the louder noise masked the quieter one.

I have the exact same issue on my 2012 991 Carrera. I have been in an endless search to find out what the issue is. I had it at the dealer once, and they said it was normal. Find it hard to believe that a brand new "the new 911" has this inherent flaw.

I was under my car to install my FisterD exhaust, and I could bang the exhaust pipe near the center and get that rattling sound... Before and after the install. Never could pin point the source. I hear a take at start up, but it quickly goes away.

I still have the sound and the exhaust system is tight and crack free. I have the Fister D sport exhaust and I've talked to Darrin about it as well. He has been more than helpful, offering to send me a new pair to try, but I told him I will exhaust all other possibilities first. Darrin will go out of his way to be helpful and give you a great customer experience. Can't say enough good things about FD Motorsports.

I had something similar. Rattle around 3,000 RPM in the lower gears. Took it in and one of the cats was rattling and replaced (under CPO). Rattle continued and took it back in. I was told this is normal for cars as they age (mine is an '06) and it was diagnosed as the "change over valve". It continued like this for about a month and the Service Manager, to his credit, agreed to take another look at it, and believe it or not, the day before taking it in, it stopped rattling and has not rattled since (for about a month). go figure.

So, what is a "change over valve"?

I had a very similar problem. It really sounded like an exhaust rattle. The firt time the "fixed" it, they replaced one of the catalytic converters. There was no change, the rattle was still there. The second time they "fixed" it, they replaced the motor mounts. No change, rattle still there. The third time, I left it with them for about three weeks. They scoured everything. Did a leakdown test on the motor. Checked all kinds of stuff. Brought in the regional Porsche guy. They finally found the problem. OIL PUMP! The oil pump was making all that noise, and only at about 3,000 RPMs. I had a hard time believing it when they told me. But they replaced the oil pump and the noise has been long gone for about 2 years. I would press them to check out the oil pump.

JW911 - thanks for the post - I will definitely have the oil pump checked out!

I'm told it is part of the induction system. I did a lot of searches on the web and did not find much information about a rattling noise associated with the change over valve.
