Default RADAR DETECTOR - EXPERIENCE AND RECOMMENDATIONS

I am planning to get a radar detector for my new C2S. I have been quite happy with the Valentine One in my BMW 550i, but wonder if I should get the same detector or something different for the 997. My Valentine One is hardwired to the car: it is mounted to the passenger's side sun visor using a clip and the wire draws power from the power in the ceiling dome light near the windshield. This prevents a cord from running from the cigarette lighter to the device on the windshield or dash which I do not ever want to do if I can avoid it.

Any experience with using or mounting the Valentine One or a different detector in a 997 would be appreciated. I noted that the Escort Passport 9500ix is getting even better reviews than the Valentine One.

Thanks!

I had a Vanetine 1 in my 996 and in my 4 Runner. Got tired of all the false beeps around town. I got a Passport 9500ix for my new 997. I like it better. It has saved me already and doesn't alarm unless real threat. It has mapped out all the fixed X band after 4 times going past the same point. It has built in GPS. I think if I was on the highway not city driving I would like the valentine better.

If you are in an area where the cops are using laser, neither one of these top detectors will save you, only if they are using radar where you can rely on reflected signals from other cars, will you get a heads up alert.

I have been using an Escort model in my work car for 10 years (average 40k miles annually) and I swear by it. Highly recommended although Lazer comments are accurate as they usually have you before the detector goes off.
Regardless I can't drive with out it, ever...especially in the 997.

Try adding a Laser Interceptor to jam the laser guns. I have a 9500ix with the LI. The combo is the way to go and works like a charm. 1 1/2 yrs ticket free in my 997.

My Escort 9500ix has been great. I still need to hardwire it to the fuse box.

BLKonBLKC4S:

How do you get an Escort 9500 with the Laser Interceptor? Is this standard or must it be purchased separately or specially?

Thanks,

I have a V1 and have ben spared a few tickets. The constant beeping around town is annoying but worth it. I was gong to disable the X band but then I discovered one LEO in the next town over who uses it. I don't know if he just never moved on from it or went back knowing it's considered an outdated band.

If Escort ever got the forward and rear detection, I would take a hard look at it. Otherwise, like my V1 for that ability and put up with the false alerts.

I have the V1. Love it! Just hardwire it to the fuse box or the dome light and life will be great. There are some great posts here with directions and pics that will show you step by step.

i love V1, it fits nce under mirror and gives you direction from where signal comes from. look for links how to hardwire it to lights dome above mirror, there is no need to go all the way down to fuse box.

V1. Wouldn't give it up. Run mine in full logic mode and don't have any trouble with extra X-Band alerts.

Timely thread. I was thinking of starting the same thread. Looking forward to reading more opinions.

I'd especially like to see more input on laser jammers. Last ticket I got was for 95mph in a 65 zone. Busted by Lidar.

Escort Redline in my 997 and the Escort 9500Xi in my wife's Lexus SUV. She has the most tickets and warnings in the family... BTW, a detector doesn't help if you ignore it. The Redline is better for hwy but will get more false alarms in the city... perhaps like the Valentine. Get the 9500Xi if you're mainly driving in the city. It really is convenient with the built in GPS and it's almost AI ability to filter out the repeat x band stuff at a specific location. Don't think you can go wrong with any of the premium brands like Escort or Valentine. Just get one so you can enjoy the ride even more so.
