Yeah, it seems like a lot to me too, we’ll see how it plays out. I’m hoping Porsche pulls through for me, the person I spoke to on the phone seemed very sympathetic, and said there are a lot of factors. That part was interesting.

I’m kind of stuck there because it would just cost me more to get the car towed out, and it’s pretty far from my house. But getting a cost estimate isn’t a half bad idea.

EDIT: I just emailed the shop nearest to my house (BR Racing - They do great work) for a quote/estimate. We’ll see what they say.

If you don't have AAA? Maybe time to think about it. Also if you use your BR racing shop, perhaps they have a race trailer they could go pick your car up with?
... you have to ask?

I shot out a couple of emails. Unfortunately I don’t have AAA, and Porsche, and my Roadside will only do 20 miles at a time. The car is about 50 miles from the shop.

We’ll see how it all plays out. Best case, Porsche covers it, worst case, I pay to have it done at the dealer. The shop unfortunately won’t give me pricing, as I defined it as bargaining power... I probably should have phrased my email better.

Ok, I got the pricing from the Indy, it’s much better.

If Porsche doesn’t cover it, I’m going to get AAA (Anyone know if you can sign up and get a tow basically right away?) and have it towed to Los Gatos. The shop offered to split towing costs with me (Huge Points) but I think going AAA will be a better move.

Bonus: Cheaper and closer to my house.

I imagine that AAA would maybe balk at giving you that 150 mile tow (if you go premium AAA) when the breakdown occurred before you purchased the membership, but maybe I'm wrong.

Most curious about how Porsche response because fuel pumps should last 10 yrs / 10000mi or more in my mind. They should not wear out like a timing belt.

FWIW I've bought a fuel pump for a US car. It was actually for my boat but Mastercraft uses car pumps. Cost me $45 at the auto parts store. Not saying they are equivalent to P brand but they do the same job.

So Porsche ended up giving me a $500 credit. I bought the part and I'm having an indy install it.

Default 8 YEARS LATER WOULD HPFP RECALL STILL BE DONE?

Just purchased 2010 997.2, 37K miles plus got 2 years CPO from Porsche dealer. Reading forums on 997's I see this thread from years ago of a recall where the HPFP is replaced under warranty. Does Porsche keep records by vin if this was done? Curious if mine had been replaced and if not, is recall still valid. I'll ask the CPO dealer but thought I'd run it by this forum too.

Funny thing is that my fuel pump started to make weird noises like a ball bearing rolling effect one way when starting ignition and the other way when turning off ignition, then I can hear the pump prime every 3-4 seconds ?

In last two years i had mine replaced twice under CPO, i'm guessing that new HPFPs have the same failure mechanisms and rates as the originals.

Absolutely. My 2009 was replaced last summer under the recall. Have your VIN run by the dealer to see if it is covered.

The vehicle should not have to be under warranty for a re-call.

Looks like mine was replaced in 2011, and may be going bad now. Guess I'm stuck for footing the bill for a new HPFP............21,xxx miles

From past posts, I'm under the impression that the fraction (0-100%) of the bill you will end up paying is a function of your dealer and your relationship with that dealer.
