Default Tell Me Something I don't know about the 997

Hi guys, new to the forum, just bought an '08 997.1. It didn't come with any owners manuals, so everything is new to me.

Tell me something I should know about the car that a person wouldn't be able to know without being a avid 997 lover.

For example, using BMW as an example: If you hold the unlock button on the key fob long enough the Windows will go down (when unlocking the car).

The radio is particularly baffling. Pushing the Preset Button it toggles through, don't hold this against me, A, B and AS or something like that. After locking in a station the display sometimes indicates the station call letters and sometimes it doesn't???

A list of 997 unique features......

No Manuals? I would suggest you get a set.

You can access a 2009 version of the owners manual by joining rennlist.org. But the manual for the PCM-radio is a separate book.

Did you know you can back up with out parking sensors, and it is ok to get rain water on the paint. It's also not a bad thing to put your foot all the way to the floor when you are moving forward.

hey now, hey now, let's give the guy a break - he hasn't been here long enough to endure the ridiculous epic threads. on that note, yes your spoiler will go up and down while you're driving even though you can't see it! it's magic!

Here is the Owner's Manual. This is for a 2007 Carrera but it is the same as the 2008. You will also need a copy of the PCM manual but I don't have an electronic copy of that one.

My 05 had NO manuals when I got it a year and a half ago. I bought the entire set off of ebay. It took a little digging to be sure I got the right set. My PCM promptly died and was replaced with a newer model, rendering my PCM manual obsolete. Back to ebay to get the correct PCM manual.

If you wash your windshield (while your headlights are on) a bunch of times the headlights will get washed automatically the tenth time. (For cars with BiXenon headlights with integrated headlight washers).

That is not specific to BMW, My Honda, Acura, and Nissan do this, my Mercedes does that too but I'm not sure if it's b/c of the roof module, pretty much installed the roof module shortly after purchased.

I'm bad, I've only read the manual once when looking for the torque settings for the wheels. Here's one you might not know, if you tab the sunroof, it will not open all the way, tab it again and it will.

Yes, renntech is what i meant! And The OP will find a better match for his car with the above linked 2007 manual rather than a 2009 version.

Check the oil by turning the key part way and waiting while it counts down and gives you a reading in the dashboard.

if you step down on the gas pedal while turning the steering wheel hard over, the car will still keep going straight.

I discovered that my first week of ownership by accident.

one touch directional signal. move the stalk just to the point of resistance and you get 3 blinks on the turn signal. great for highway lane changes and maneuvering in and out of street traffic.

2-stage sunroof.
After the sunroof stops opening, press the button again and it will open fully.
You might prefer it on the first setting due to wind noise.
I like mine all the way open sometimes...
