No horn beep when locking the car with the remote!

Thank God it doesn't. All other beeping cars are simply obnoxious.

I often wished there was a quiet autible confirmation the doors locked / unlocked. Often there's enough background noise that I can't always tell and the remote isn't fool proof. Previous BMWs with the alarm option had a quiet chirp and I've had cars with the horn and that's obnoxious - especially if coming home late. Haven't really found a resolution to this - and no, I won't spend anything for this feature after-market.

I agree that an audible signal would be nice although using the horn is overkill. My Audi has a subtle electronic beep when locked that I wish the Porsche had as well.

Check out this RemoteKey (or SmartTop if you have a Cab): http://www.wit-usa.com/smailer/link....&v=YuPhMoyCIc8
Works like a champ and provides some other useful features as well - many redundant to the 997.2, but lock beep, remote windows, auto-up passenger window - all pretty cool and fairly easy install.

The RemoteKey is a great DIY mod. The audible chirp is very quiet and not obnoxious. It can only be heard if you are close to your car. It's nice to walk away from the car and not look back to confirm that the lights flash. On a hot day you can roll the windows down automatically with your key fob, at about 50 feet away.

Perhaps you don't understand how the present car lock system works. Recall that when you press the button once the car will lock itself all up. Let's say you aren't sure that you locked it so you press the button (again) which effectively UNLOCKS the car. As you walk away from the car are you certain that they car will be secure? Of course. Within about 30 seconds of pushing the button (either locking or ultimately UNLOCKING the car again) it will automatically RELOCK the car so long as you did not open a car door.
Personally, I prefer having a car that speaks to me with merely a flash of the lights than with a beep! It's all a part of lessing the noise pollution we are exposed to during the day!

I think it's amusing that we own cars that are already louder than most, and add stuff like PSE (guilty) and other exhaust and intake mods to make them even louder, yet complain about electronic beeps as adding to noise pollution. I guess one man's noise is another man's music.

On older, pre-996 cars there was visual indication on the state of the alarm system. One can quickly glance at the blinking LED on top of the interior top door molding and see of the alarm is armed or not. I miss that LED . . .

That LED still blinks on the dash when my 997.2 car is locked...
