Official ipod adapter from porsche.

I'm curious too. If it's not FM it would be perfect for me. If it is I'll go ahead and get the Mobridge setup with bluetooth I keep putting off.

It's FM modulated. See description from Suncoast part below. The AUX interface for the 997.2 (PCM 3.0) has 3 connectors: USB, AUX, and iPod. The one for 997.1 and earlier years have only two: AUX and iPod.

If you have CDR30, then you can buy this AUX interface, which is a direct connect to CDR30 and shows up as AUX on the display. Note that this one does NOT have the iPod connector and connects your iPod thru the AUX/speaker jack.

Thx, it make sense now. Control by player. I know DICE? make one. But like to have OEM stuff. Bought the bluetooth tookie thru last group buy and haven't installed yet. Didn't come along with instruction. If OEM, at the dealer can fix it. Again, thx for the insight. I was too lazy to dig.

Hi everyone. I have the OEM ipod connector installed. Was working fine with my old generation ipod Nano (3rd Gen I believe) but when I tried out my newer Nano's (4th & 5th Gen), they both say they can't charge using the cable. But I can still play music etc
Anyone else have this issue and any ideas on ways to get around this. Presume this is going to be an issue with all new Ipods.
Thanks

Ipod Charging
Apple changed the pin outs for the latest generations of iPhones and iPods. As a result, you can listen to music but can not charge using "old" connector. You can purchase an adapter that will connect your latest generation Apple product and allow you to listen and charge your device. Search on Apple site for the connector.

so if I understand correctly, for a 997.1 this devise works through the FM? If that's the case the sound quality will be terrible. I guess another solution is necessary and somehow I don't think Porsche will come up with it. I'm aware of the Denison and Nav tv

On the '09, it's fully integrated and NOT the BS FM stuff.
For the after-delivery-add-on-from-Porsche, it's BS. Get the Dension. Or email me for details.

I have a 997.2 and am using an old Gen 3 ipod (just to leave in the car all the time) with the 2 prong connector, but when I tried an iPod Touch, it needed the 3 prong connector (plugging in the USB cord also) in order to charge.
The PCM system works great for me.

Solution for 997.1 iPod Aux Connectivity in 2015
A friend has a 2006 997.1 which came with an iPod or Aux Input Kit already installed in it but with no cable.
His iPod kit is the 997.1 which only has AUX and iPod (not the USB port later added to this kit).
I've been researching on how to use the iPod port and make this installation compatible with his iPhone 6 but also thinking about how to make it practical for everyday use.
Here are my research results, looking fwd to your experiences/thoughts.
To summarize, it seems there are 2 configurations:
1. $40 (iPod cable) + $20 (charging adapter) + $6 (extension) $40 (apple lightning adapter) = $106
2. $40 (iPod cable) + $89 (bluetooth module) = $129 (here he'll need a separate charging cable, $20-$50 car charger + apple lightning charging cable)
Looking fwd to your thoughts or experiences by trying out these solutions.

- [Suncoast iPod Cable]
Suncoast offers an iPod replacement cable for $32.95 (~$40 with shipping costs).
This cable goes from proprietary Porsche to 30-pin connector of the first iPods (2005-2006).
The issue with this cable as Suncoast mentions is "it won't charge iPhone 3G or newer".
I address this next.
- [30-pin to 30-pin adapter for charging]
Based on this article by MacWorld, from iPhone 3G and later, Apple changed the configuration of the 30-pin connector and charging was performed through the USB pins Vs. the FireWire or USB pins before.
Luckily, there are a couple of adapters that can convert the 30-pin to 30-pin so that charging is preserved through this conversion to make it eventually available through the lightning connector (next step).
On Amazon you can find this adapter for ~$20-25.
There are 2 vendors with a large number of positive reviews. ( , )
- [30-pin to 30-pin extension cord] $6
This is needed since you will want to have your iPhone mounted somewhere on the dashboard and not inside the arm rest as the iPod was supposed to be back in the day. - [Apple 30-pin to lightning adapter]
The last piece is the 30-pin to lightning adapter that Apple offers for $29 to $39 (Lightning to 30-pin Adapter,Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m)).
Here I've read in some forums that it might be preferred to have some extra cable left since the new iPhone 6 cannot fit in the glove box and it helps having the cable outside.
That's why I'm thinking of the 0.2m version of it at $39.
- [Bluetooth connectivity]
If you want to keep you iPhone in your pocket or do separate charging, making this bluetooth might not be a bad idea.
The bluetooth module from has ~700 good reviews on Amazon and takes in 30-pin connector (costs $89).
Based on the description that I read, I think that this will work straight from the Porsche cable without a need for the Scosche converter.
To summarize, it seems there are 2 configurations:
1. $40 (iPod cable) + $20 (charging adapter) + $6 (extension) $40 (apple lightning adapter) = $106
